Last game day in the old year brings chances for revenge

The last round in the old year of the Alps Hockey League will provide numerous chances for revenge. Three of the six duels on Wednesday had the first leg only on December 26. Also in the other three encounters the first duel still took place in December. Above all, EC Bregenzerwald would like to further improve its flawless derby record on the past days to extend the winning streak of now seven games.

The leader of the table HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana will meet again the fourth-placed Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey on Wednesday. Only on December 26 these two teams faced each other. Asiago cut the gap in the standings to five points with a 5-2 home win. For the Yellow-Red this was already the seventh success in a row in the Home & Away Round. In the duel a few days ago, Marco Rosa was particularly convincing with two goals and two assists. Ljubljana conceded more than three goals for the first time this season. In the eternal balance in the Alps Hockey League, the Slovenians are still clearly ahead with seven wins in nine meetings with Asiago.

VEU Feldkirch celebrated a 3:2 victory over EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel on December 28. Kitzbühel already led twice in the encounter, but still could not take any points from this duel. VEU was able to establish itself in the upper half of the table with this success. With the fourth defeat in a row, Kitzbühel, on the other hand, lost some ground to the middle of the standings. In the Return 2 Play Round the home team prevailed in each case. The overall duel, however, went to Feldkirch. The Eagles are thus still without points against VEU this season and are eager for their first countable success when they visit the Vorarlbergers on December 30.

In the duel S.G. Cortina Hafro against SHC Fassa Falcons the guests prevailed on December 26. With a new success of the Falcons they could even overtake Cortina in the standings. Cortina was defeated in three of the last four games and thus lost important points in the fight for a place in the upper half of the standings. In the eternal AHL record Cortina has the clearly better record with 11:4. However, Fassa won the last two meetings.

The derby weeks find a continuation for EC Bregenzerwald. The Wälder recently won against Lustenau (19.12.) as well as against VEU Feldkirch (26.12.). In total, EC Bregenzerwald even managed to win the last seven games and climb up to fifth place in the standings. With another derby win, they could even reach the top-4 on Wednesday. Lustenau is currently only two points behind Bregenzerwald. They were defeated in both Vorarlberg derbies before Christmas, but were able to redeem themselves with a 9-0 win over EC Kitzbühel. Maximilian Wilfan scored four goals in the win. In the Return 2 Play Round, Lustenau was able to win clearly with an overall score of 6:1. Also in the eternal AHL record Lustenau is still ahead with 9:6.

Also the Rittner Buam and HC Gherdeina valgerdena.it meet for the second time in the Home & Away Round. Their first duel, in which the Rittner Buam won 4:1, was already four weeks ago. MacGregor Sharp scored a brace for the Buam. In the last few games, however, things did not go according to plan for the premiere champions in the Alps Hockey League. The Buam had to admit defeat in three of the last four games and are only in twelfth place. One point more conquered so far HC Gherdeina, who also lost three of the last four games. Gherdeina collected most of their points already in the Return 2 Play Round. Gherdeina has succeeded only once in eleven attempts against the Rittner Buam in the Alps Hockey League so far.

Second-placed HC Pustertal faces 14th-placed Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan in the last game of the year. The Broncos suffered nine defeats in a row before they managed the supposed liberation against the Rittner Buam on Monday. Pustertal had to accept a defeat against the Rittner Buam themselves on December 26, but then recorded a win against HC Gherdeina two days later. The first meeting between HC Pustertal and the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan went to the wolves with 5:2. In the eternal AHL record, the Wolves are clearly ahead with 10:3.
