Release from 24.09.2022
The Hockey Unterland Cavaliers continued their winning streak in the Alps Hockey League. The league newcomers celebrated a 3:1 home victory over EHC Lustenau, winning their third game as well. HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice and Hafro Cortina Hockey are the first pursuers of the leaders, both teams also picked up three points on Saturday.
The Hockey Unterland Cavaliers remain the top team of the Alps Hockey League. The side from Neumarkt beat EHC Lustenau 3:1 at home on Saturday. Santeri Haarala (8th) scored the only goal in the first period. After the restart, the hosts again proved to be more efficient, Gabriel and David Galassiti increased the score to 3:0. Lustenau kept up well, but failed again and again due to Unterland goalkeeper Tizian Giovanelli, who was also named "player of the evening". The visitors managed to score when they were shorthanded, but the Stefan Hrdina's goal in the 58th minute came too late. Unterland thus remains the only undefeated AHL team and also defended its lead in the standings.
HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice and Hafro Cortina Hockey also celebrated victories on Saturday and also hold on to nine points. The Slovenians won 4:2 in Merano, Rudolfs Polcs and Eric Pance scoring two goals each. Cortina always went ahead in the home game against Sterzing, but the Broncos always came back. After the visitors made it 4:4 in the 56th minute, it already looked like overtime. But 41 seconds before the end Riccardo Lacedelli scored his second goal of the evening to decide the game. It was the third win in a row for the Italians.
Salzburg, Klagenfurt and Bregenzerwald get extra point
No less than three games went into overtime on Saturday. Although Red Bull Hockey Juniors dominated their first home game of the new season against Gardena, the score was 1:1 after 60 minutes. Juha Pukkila finally scored the winning goal for the home side in the 64th minute on the powerplay.
Although the Rittner Buam Skyalps took the lead against Bregenzerwald, Julian Zwerger turned the game around with two goals in the middle period. The South Tyroleans promptly equalised and in the end the shootout had to decide. Roberts Lipsbergs converted the fourth attempt and secured the extra point for his team.
The Steinbach Steel Wings Linz missed their first win of the season at home against the EC-KAC Future Team. Despite their superiority, the Upper Austrians were denied a goal. After a goalless 65 minutes, the game went to a penalty shoot-out, where Stefan Klassek scored into the right corner to secure the away win.
Kitzbühel wins second home game
EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel quickly trailed 0:2 at home against Fassa, but the Tyroleans managed to pull one back in the first period. With four goals, the home side really turned up the heat in the middle period and made the preliminary decision. In the end, Kitzbühel won 6:3, their second home victory of the season.
