Linz beats leader Salzburg, Villach gets second home win

On Friday leader EC Red Bull Salzburg got the first season defeat by Liwest Black Wings Linz. EC Panaceo VSV also won their second home game, having maximum points. In addition, HC Orli Znojmo and HC Bolzano each earned their first season wins.

Red Bulls suffer first season defeat
In front of 3.400 spectators Linz got an early lead by Marek Kalus. The hosts were the dominant team for two period, though, turning the game around and having a 3:1 lead after 40 minutes. Linz bounced back in the third with scoring three within just a few minutes. Chad Kolarik tied the game at four and sent it to overtime. In the extra session it took Brian Lebler only 22 seconds to decide it to the Black Wings' favour.



Villach has maximum points

The fans in Villach saw a game at eye level with Vienna taking the lead in the 16th minute. Three minutes later the hosts tied it when new arrival Marko Pöyhönen found the back of the net from the blue line. Both teams only struck metalwork in the middle frame and the score remained 1:1. In the third it took some minutes until good chances were generated again. Finally it was Patrick Bjorkstrand who scored the game winner for Villach's second home win this season.

Znojmo gets first season win in Innsbruck
Both Innsbruck and Znojmo lost their season opener. On Friday the Czechs had the better start with Sedlak opening the scoring. In further consequence Innsbruck wasted plenty of chances but at the halfway point of the game Jan Lattner scored against his former club. After Znojmo restored the lead it was Mike Boivin who tied it at two. However, Znojmo took the win thanks to Sedlak's power play goal - it was their third successive victory in Innsbruck.

Bolzano back on winning ways
After their worst ever season start in Erste Bank Eishockey Liga HC Bolzano bounced back in the home game against KAC. After a goalless first period Colton Hargrove broke the spell with a curious goal. Later in the middle period Marco Insam doubled the lead. Despite coming close to pull one back, Klagenfurt did not get on the scoreboard this evening. Finally Jamie Arniel made the game safe with an empty netter. For the first time since February 2019 resp. 20 games, Klagenfurt conceded two successive Erste Bank Eishockey Liga defeats again.
