Release from 27.11.2021
The Steinbach Black Wings Linz won 5:1 against league leader HK SZ Olimpija on Friday in the debut of new head coach Raimo Summanen. While EC GRAND Immo VSV also celebrated a clear home victory, the Moser Medical Graz99ers managed a shutout. EC-KAC and EC Red Bull Salzburg earned road wins after overtime resp. shootout.
Neo-Linz coach Raimo Summanen's debut did not go according to plan at first, with Ljubljana taking the lead through Ales Music after eight minutes. But Andreas Krister managed to equalize in the first period. The home side then laid the foundation for victory with a strong middle period. First Emilio Romig turned the game around, then Kristler scored again (26th) and newcomer Colin Smith (28th), who thus got on the scoresheet in his first game for the Black Wings. The league leader did not recover from these setbacks. Although the Slovenians had more of the game in the last period, the only goal was scored by the home side again: Andris Dzerins fixed the 5:1 final score. Thus, in the fourth duel of the season between these two teams, the home team won again.
Second-placed Székesfehérvár were also beaten on Friday. The home team led against EC Red Bull Salzburg with 3:0 after 16 minutes, but Benjamin Nissner started the comeback in the middle period and Lucas Thaler made it 3:2 shortly after. In the third period Ty Loney forced overtime with a powerplay goal. Finally, the penalty shootout had to decide, and here the Red Bulls kept the upper hand thanks to a Järvinen goal. While the Hungarians left the ice as losers for the third time in a row, the now third-placed Salzburgers celebrated their fifth league win in a row.
Victories for Villach, Graz and Klagenfurt
EC GRAND Immo VSV celebrated a 7:1 blowout win over the spusu Vienna Capitals. After the Viennese-born Felix Maxa put the eagles in the lead, the Caps were allowed to cheer about the intermediate equalizer by Patrick Antal. But two seconds before the end of the period it was Scott Kosmachuk who scored a powerplay marker to make it 2:1 for the home side. The top scorer from Villach also added a goal in the middle period, and in the final period the Carinthians made things very clear. In the end, VSV clearly won the first duel of the season against Vienna. The team from Villach impressively proved that they are the league's most dangerous team in terms of goals on home ice.
The Moser Medical Graz99ers and HC Pustertal played a goalless battle for a long time. After an even first period, the Styrians took command in the middle period, but failed to take the lead. It took until the 43rd minute when Michael Boivin redeemed the home side via the bar. Captain Daniel Oberkofler (55th) finally ensured the decision when the team was shorthanded. The Graz team deserved to win 2:0, goalie Lundström celebrated his third shutout. For the new Pustertal head coach Raimo Helminen it was the first defeat.
In addition, the EC-KAC extended the losing streak of the Dornbirn Bulldogs to eleven games. It quickly looked like a clear affair for the Carinthians, who already led 2:0 after four minutes through goals from Lukas Haudum and Stefan Geier. Although the champions had more of the game over the entire period, the team from Vorarlberg fought their way back. In the middle period, the home side even managed to equalize through a brace from defender Davis Vandane. The score remained 2:2 after 60 minutes, and in overtime Martin Schumnig finally ensured the away victory.
