After the Upper Austrians terminated the contract with defenseman Victor Bartley by mutual agreement early this week, the “Stahlstädter” now signed Daine Todd. The 35-year-old started his career in the Western Hockey League, one of the three top junior leagues in Canada. In 234 appearances for the Medicine Hat Tigers, the defenseman matured into a leader early on and promptly led his team to the championship in his first season as captain. After another year in the American Hockey League, Todd ventured to Europe, skating two seasons in the KHL for Finnish club Jokerit Helsinki and playing his way into the playoffs with a total of 80 games in both years. After two more years in the Swedish top league SHL for Lulea and Örebro HK, the defender played 66 games under Rob Daum for the Iserlohn Roosters in the DEL.

Last year, Todd played at Sheffield Steelers, where he really rediscovered his offensive power. In 36 games, he contributed 28 points (3 goals) and quickly became a crowd favorite.

"With Daine Todd, we get an experienced leader who has already proven himself in the best leagues in Europe. He is a fast all-rounder who will help us especially on the power play. We had Daine in the back of our minds for a while and are very happy that it worked out so quickly now," comments head scout Rick Nasheim on the transfer.
