Canadian-born Basile started his coaching career in Italy in 1990. He coached Brixen, Varese, Asiago, Fiemme and Fassa. However, Basile celebrated his greatest successes in France, where he worked from 2003 to 2019. He won the French championship three times (twice with Gap and once with Briancon). He was also named Coach of the Year four times.

With HC Pustertal, a new challenge awaits the 60-year-old, and he is visibly looking forward to it: "I have heard nothing but good things about the city and its people from my friends Diego Scandella and Maurizio Mansi. I was also impressed by the way the club managers at HC Pustertal dealt with the current situation in ice hockey and approached future tasks in a positive way. I am looking forward to the new challenge and my return to Italy. In addition to his work as a club coach, Basile, who was born in Montreal, is also active as national coach. He has been coaching the Spanish national team since 2010.
