In a thrilling semifinal opening match between Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey and HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice, the Slovenians narrowly won with 4:3 after overtime. The decisive goal by Bine Masic was scored in the 73rd minute of the game. For the 18-years-old defender it was the first goal ever in the Alps Hockey League. On Saturday, Asiago is thus challenged. Another defeat would mean match pucks for Jesenice. However, the Italians are a power at home. They have lost only one of their last 15 home games. Jesenice, on the other hand, lost in three of the past five away games. With the win on Thursday, JES managed to equalize in the H2H. Now both teams have twelve wins each. This season Jesenice won the second match in the third duel. However, the only game in Asiago was clearly won by the 2018 AHL champion (ASH) with 3:0.

Also in the second semifinal the Slovenian representative started with a win. The 2019 AHL champion HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana came one step closer to its dream of defending the title. They won with 4:2 against EHC Lustenau in the opening match. For the Slovenians it was the tenth win in the twelfth AHL duel with the Austrians. HKO is currently almost unbeatable in home games. It was already their ninth home win in a row. Away from home, the „Dragons“ have won seven of their last eight games. Lustenau, on the other hand, won all of their last three home games. Before that, however, they had lost at home three times in a row. Against Ljubljana, the EHC lost four out of five home games. However, they should win Saturday's home game in order to keep the „best-of-five series“ exciting. But, they will probably have to continue to play below-strength. Five players of the Vorarlberg team are very likely to miss the second game of the series due to an injury.
