The EHC Lustenau signed 21-year-old Renars Karkls and thus strengthened its defensive. Up to now, the Latvian has been predominantly active in his home country. Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey will retain goalkeeper Gianluca Vallini in the coming season. The 26-year-old was already the number one of the Italians last season, before he was injured in December and therefore had to end the season early. The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan have to cope with a painful departure. Slater Doggett, top scorer of the past Alps Hockey League season, leaves the Broncos and returns to his home country Canada.

Lustenau signs Latvian defender
The EHC Lustenau strengthened their defensive by signing Renars Karkls from Latvia. The 21-year-old has spent most of his young career in his home country. There he played for HK Riga, Dinamo Riga and Zemgale. Last season the 195 cm tall defender moved to the USA to join the Jamestown Rebels in the NAHL. Karkls scored 15 points in 33 games.

"I am convinced that Renars is a good improvement for our team. In recent years we have had very good experiences with young Latvian players. They have been very well trained in the junior teams and are technically very well versed. At the age of 21, he can already draw on a great deal of international experience and can recommend himself to us for higher tasks," Lustenau president Herbert Oberscheider said.

Goalkeeper Vallini extends with Asiago

Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey can also rely on the services of Gianluca Vallini in the coming season. For the goalkeeper it will be the second season with the Italians. In the past season, the 26-year-old only had 22 appearances. Due to an injury he sustained in December, the season ended earlier than planned for Vallini. His save percentage was 92.3% in 22 appearances.

"As for my first season, on a personal level I can be satisfied with the way I played, but I am disappointed that I was not able to help the team to the end. Before I signed last year, I didn't think I would enjoy playing here so much. But everything was fantastic and I'm looking forward to playing another season with Asiago," said Gianluca Vallini.

Top goalscorer Doggett moves to the ECHL

The Canadian Slater Doggett leaves the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan after one year and returns to his home country. There the 26-year-old signed with Brampton Beast in the ECHL. In the past season of the Alps Hockey League the Center was successful 44 times. Thus Doggett was the top goalscorer of the league. The second best goalscorer was James McGowan, from HC Gherdeina valgardena.it, but with already five goals less scored than Doggett.
