Release from 23.10.2021
The EHC Lustenau narrowly won the top match of the Alps Hockey League on Saturday against Hafro Cortina Hockey with 2:1 and thus defended the fourth place in the table. While the EC-KAC Future Team and the EK Zeller Eisbären each celebrated their third victory in a row, HC Gherdeina decided the Ladino derby against the Fassa Falcons in their favor.
HC Gherdeina valgardena.it - SHC Fassa Falcons 7:5 (0:2,4:1,3:2)
The Derby Ladino once again became a real spectacle with many penalties on both sides and twelve goals. The guests from Canazei took the lead already in the third minute through Daniel Tedesco, Steven McParland increased the score to 0:2 a little later - and it stayed that way until the first intermission. But in the middle period the home side turned up the heat, led by league MVP Brad McGowan, who scored two goals, Val Gardena turned the game around and had a 4:3 lead after 40 minutes. After the restart, McGowan scored a hat trick and soon after the hosts pulled away to 7:4. Although Tedesco also scored his third goal of the evening in the final minute, it had no impact anymore. In the 17th AHL duel, the Gardena side, who scored five goals on powerplay and improved to eleventh place, thus left the ice as winners for the 13th time.
EC-KAC Future Team - Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan 4:2 (1:0,1:0,1:2)
Before the match against Sterzing, the KAC stood at five wins from seven home games. With this self-confidence the Klagenfurt team went to work on Saturday and Rok Kapel provided the only goal in the first period in the tenth minute on the powerplay. Again with a man advantage, the Carinthians went up 2:0 in the middle period through Jannik Fröwis. In the final period, the Broncos came within one goal twice, and in the end the KAC celebrated their third win in a row against Sterzing with a 4:2 victory. With the third win in a row, the Carinthians improved to sixth place.
Vienna Capitals Silver - EK Die Zeller Eisbären 1:8 (0:3,1:4,0:1)
The Polar Bears started the first period full of pressure. Henrik Neubauer scored already after 17 seconds against his ex-club. While newcomer Max Zimmermann showed good saves in the goal of Zell am See on his debut, his teammates increased the score to 3:0 in the first period. Although the Silver Caps - who played the game for the first time at the cooperation club in Graz - scored the first goal shortly after the restart, the Salzburgers pulled away to 7:1 with four goals within three minutes. In the end, the fifth-placed visitors celebrated their third win in a row against the bottom team with 8:2.
BEMER VEU Feldkirch - HC Meran/o Pircher 3:4 OT (1:0,1:3,1:0,0:1)
Feldkirch and Meran were looking for a sense of achievement before the game. VEU won only one of their previous nine games, while Meran also suffered five straight defeats. A quick Reinbacher goal also meant the opener in Feldkirch failed, but the league newcomers hit back with three goals in the middle period. The hosts were able to shorten the score shortly before the second intermission through Birnstill, and right after the restart Bolterle even managed to equalize. At 3:3 the game went into overtime, which Oscar Ahlström decided in favor of the guests with his second goal of the evening.
EHC Lustenau - S.G. Cortina Hafro 2:1 (2:0,0:0,0:1)
From the beginning, Lustenau was the team that set the tone and put the Italians under pressure. However, Cortina had the first big chance in the third minute, but Noah Lacedelli failed to score against Lustenau's goalie Eric Hanses. In the eighth minute, the hosts took advantage of the first powerplay opportunity through Elias Wallenta to take the lead. Only one minute later Kevin Puschnik increased it to 2:0 for Lustenau, Cortina coach Ivo Machacka then took a timeout. The score remained at that level for a long time, also because both goalkeepers did a great job. In the last period, the guests from Veneto got off to a lightning start. A shot from Enrico Larcher was deflected by Riccardo Lacedelli after only 52 seconds. Cortina now had their best phase and had a few opportunities. But Lustenau's goalie made some more great saves to prevent the equalizer. In the last two minutes, Cortina's netminder Marco de Filippo Roja was replaced by a sixth skater, but the result did not change.
Steel Wings Linz - EC Bregenzerwald 2:6 (1:3,0:2,1:1)
After the win in Vienna, EC Bregenzerwald continued in Linz just 24 hours later. The Steel Wings caught the guests cold, already after 37 seconds Isak Ekelund scored for the early lead. But the Vorarlberg team turned the game in their favor with three goals before the end of the first period. Bregenzerwald kept the pressure on after the restart and scored two more goals to extend the lead. In the end, Bregenzerwald, with Fabian Ranftl and Waltteri Lehtonen each scoring a brace, celebrated a clear 6:2 victory. Thus, the seventh direct duel also went to the Vorarlberg team, which improved to eighth place in the table.
