Since the 2012/13 season, Lyle Seitz has been responsible for referee development in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. This season, however, the 51-year-old Canadian has had his hands full, especially as part of the Sports Committee, which is strongly involved in Corona-related decisions such as the start of the season and general game operations.

In the first block of a multi-part interview, Lyle Seitz looks back at the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League's biggest challenges and explains the necessary changes that had to be made in game operations. "At the beginning of the season, the league was in a situation of survival.[...] Since November, we have been on a good pace," says Seitz.

In addition to the Corona-related measures, standardized game operations are also constantly being developed. For example, this season, penalties were announced by referees live in the (empty) arenas for the first time - analogous to the NHL model - in selected games. Seitz provides information on initial findings on this as well as further operational planning in the intermediate round.

In this interview, Lyle Seitz talks about the development of referees in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. With Manuel and Kristian Nikolic, two professionals have already left the league before this season. The Director of Hockey Operations explains who can fill the shoes left behind and how young referees can become professional referees in the following video clip.
