Lehtonen who had already moved to the Croatian capital during the 2017/18 season missed almost the entire preseason. After a long hand injury he suffered a leg injury during the Continental Cup tournament in Belfast. Therefore the 32-year-old played only one league game for KHL Medvescak Zagreb (1:2 OT defeat versus VIC on November 13th). In his career the Finnish striker already acted in all top leagues: He played two games in the NHL for the Boston Bruins. He also played 77 games in the KHL and 181 games in the SHL, where he was topscorer of the league in the 2010/11 season with 30 goals. In his native country Finland he played a total of 223 games.

"I talked a lot with the club management and coach Hannu Järvenpää. They want to help me to come back after my injury. I want to get back to the form that I had in the KHL or the SHL for example - and serve as a role model for the other players,“ Lehtonen said.
