Milano Hockey Club – HC TIWAG Innsbruck
After eight away games to start the season, Milano will play its first home game on Friday at the newly built Fiera Ice Arena, which seats 4,000 spectators. The league newcomers got off to a strong start to their debut season with five wins from eight matches and currently sit fourth in the table. Most recently, however, the Italians suffered defeats against Villach and Salzburg. Innsbruck failed to score in its last two matches against Vienna (0–4) and Graz (0–3) and is now looking to get back on track. The Milan side won the first meeting of the season 3–1, with goalkeeper Jacob Smith putting in an impressive performance with 40 saves.

EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV – HCB Südtirol Alperia
League leaders Bolzano are away to ninth-placed VSV. The South Tyroleans have 18 points from seven games and remain unbeaten in regular time. Most recently, the Foxes celebrated a 4–0 victory over EC-KAC and then edged out FTC-Telekom 4–3 in a penalty shoot-out. Villach remain on ten points and suffered a 3–4 overtime defeat to the Vienna Capitals on Sunday, despite a late equaliser.

Steinbach Black Wings Linz – HC Falkensteiner Pustertal
Two of the league’s currently in-form teams are set to face off in Linz. The third-placed Black Wings have won four of their last five matches and most recently defeated EC-KAC 6–1. Pustertal sit fifth with 14 points from six matches and travel to Upper Austria on the back of a run of four consecutive wins. The two sides last met at the end of September, when the runners-up narrowly prevailed 5–4 in a high-scoring encounter. The Linz side have won all three of their matches since that defeat and are now looking to avenge what has been their only loss in their last five matches.

Pioneers Vorarlberg – EC-KAC
EC-KAC travel on Friday to face Pioneers Vorarlberg, who remain bottom of the table with no points. After five wins to start the season, the Klagenfurt side have recently suffered three consecutive defeats, including a heavy 1–6 loss in Linz. After eight matches, the Pioneers are still waiting for their first point and were most recently beaten 0–8 away at Olimpija Ljubljana. In front of their home crowd, however, the Vorarlberg side have held their own on several occasions, losing to Villach, Milan and Fehérvár by just a single goal on each occasion. Whilst the Pioneers lead the league with a penalty-killing rate of 85.2 per cent, Klagenfurt boast a strong power play at 32.3 per cent.

Moser Medical Graz99ers – Olimpija Ljubljana
The Graz99ers welcome Olimpija Ljubljana on Friday and are aiming to secure their first home win against the Slovenians in almost two years. Last season, Ljubljana won both of their away matches in Graz, in each case after overtime or a penalty shoot-out. Olimpija currently have four wins from seven matches and most recently celebrated a convincing 8–0 victory against the Pioneers Vorarlberg. Graz were in action in the Champions Hockey League earlier this week and suffered a 1–3 defeat to the Finnish side SaiPa. In terms of squad availability, the Styrians can hope for some relief: captain Marcus Vela returns to the line-up, whilst the availability of other players who have recently been absent remains to be seen.

Hydro Fehérvár AV19 – EC Red Bull Salzburg
In Székesfehérvár, two neighbouring teams in the table, level on points, are set to face off. Salzburg sit in tenth place thanks to a better goal difference, with Fehérvár just behind in eleventh. The Red Bulls won their last two league matches against the Pioneers Vorarlberg and Milano, but suffered a 3–4 defeat to Eisbären Berlin in the Champions Hockey League on Wednesday. Fehérvár most recently lost the Hungarian derby against FTC-Telekom 2–5 and went down 2–3 to Pustertal after overtime. For Salzburg, Florian Baltram is set to make his first appearance of the season after recovering from injury.

FTC-Telekom – Vienna Capitals
The Vienna Capitals kick off the matchday with an away fixture against FTC-Telekom, who sit second from bottom in the table. Vienna are seventh with eleven points and have recently won against both Innsbruck (4–0) and Villach (4–3 after overtime). Jakob Lilja has been particularly on form, racking up six points in these two matches and, with a total of eleven points, is among the league’s top scorers. FTC-Telekom have seven points from six games and were recently defeated 3–4 on penalties by league leaders Bolzano, despite having led 2–0 at one stage. Last season, the Capitals won three of their four head-to-head encounters.
