Olivier Magnan (#2) of Dornbirn Bulldogs time 39:09, was involved in an incident deemed as Slew-footing (IIHF Rule 160). The video evidence was sent to the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1A - 'Careless - Fine with no suspension'.

According to the Arbitrator and having considered the video evidence and ruling of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League PSC, Olivier Magnan (#2) of Dornbirn Bulldogs will receive supplementary discipline under IIHF rule 160 – Slew-footing.

On March 21st in Salzburg, an incident occurred involving Dornbirn player #2 Olivier Magnan and Salzburg player #5 Thomas Raffl, which is deemed slew-footing. A 2 minute penalty for high-sticking was assessed by the on-ice officials.

As the video shows, Salzburg is in puck possession in the attacking zone. In front of the net, Raffl establishes a net front presence, in which Magnan in a defensive manner, establishes a 1 on 1 battle. The battle between the 2 players is considered legal until the play stopped, at which time Magnan engages in a slew foot manner deemed illegal.

The call on the ice by the Referee was high sticking, which the play is also considered a high sticking action. However, based on the combination of Magnan's upper body and stick propelling 1 way and his left leg moving in the opposite direction, this incident is deemed slew footing for the purpose of supplementary discipline. The issue with slew footing is the opposing player has no real way to defend himself and is propelled backwards in a defenseless manner, which is exactly what occurred here. But like all infractions, there is different degrees of force. The PSC has determined that although not overly forceful and Raffl was not propelled backwards in a manner deemed overly dangerous, it does not take away from the fact that the motions of a slew foot occurred. Magnan is entitled to hold his ground, but considering when both Raffl and Magnan were shoulder to shoulder at the stoppage, Magnan could have refrained from lower leg moving forward as his upper body is propelling backwards.

Effective immediately, Olivier Magnan (#2) of Dornbirn Bulldogs is fined 250.00 Euros and considered a repeat offender.
