Nick Bonino: From the NHL Straight to the ICE

HK Olimpija Ljubljana welcomes a top-class addition: American forward Nick Bonino is joining the team. With his extensive experience and impressive achievements in the NHL, Bonino is among the standout players in his position. The EC-KAC is also addressing the strained personnel situation on defense by signing Danish defenseman Mads Larsen.

Bonino brings a wealth of experience from the prestigious NHL, where he played 973 games and scored over 400 points. His career has taken him to renowned teams such as the Anaheim Ducks, where he made his NHL debut, the Vancouver Canucks, the Nashville Predators, the Minnesota Wild, and the Pittsburgh Penguins, with whom he won two Stanley Cups (2016 and 2017). As a two-way center, Bonino impresses with his versatility, being a decisive factor both offensively and defensively.

Bonino has also made his mark on the international stage. Representing the U.S. national team, he participated in several World Championships, won two bronze medals, and captained the team in 2023.

KAC signs defender
The 29-year-old right-shot defenseman Mads Larsen was developed in the youth system of the Malmö Redhawks and gained professional experience in Sweden and Denmark, where he also became a national team player (19 appearances). Over the past two seasons, he played for EHC Lustenau (Alps Hockey League) and VHK Vsetín, with whom he won the Czech second-division championship. Most recently, he was under contract with the Blue Devils Weiden in the DEL2.

Larsen arrived in Klagenfurt on Friday, all formalities have been completed, and he is now ready to suit up for EC-KAC.
