The Alps Hockey League starts into the new year on Saturday, January 2nd. A total of five games are on the schedule. Among others the second of the standings HC Pustertal is in action. In addition, the west derby between the EC Bregenzerwald and the EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel will be played. On Sunday, league leader HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana hits the ice for the first time in 2021. There are games at the beginning of next week too. On Monday, January 4th and Tuesday, January 5th, three games are scheduled. On Monday there will be the top clash between the HC Pustertal and Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey. All games will be broadcasted as livestream.
Sat, 02.01.2021, 18:00: EC-KAC II – EHC Lustenau

The first game in the Alps Hockey League in 2021 will be played by the EC-KAC II and the EHC Lustenau. Both teams celebrated clear victories recently. While Lustenau won with 9:0 in Kitzbühel and then with 5:1 in the derby against Bregenzerwald, the KA2 won clearly with 10:1 against the Steel Wings Linz. It was the first game for the Klagenfurt team after a break of more than three weeks. Due to medical precautionary measures, their last games had to be postponed. On December 5th, both teams faced each other for the first time this season. The EHC celebrated a 2:0 home victory. In the standings it comes to the duel of the fourth (EHC - 26 points) with the 15th (KA2 - 7 points). However, the Carinthians have only played 13 games, six less than the Vorarlberger team. In the AHL, both teams have dueled eleven times so far. Only once the KA2 won.

The sixth in the standings, Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey will challenge the eleventh, the SHC Fassa Falcons on Saturday. It will be the third duel of the season between the two teams. In the Return-2-Play, Fassa prevailed with a total score of 6:4. Then Asiago managed a 2:1 away win after overtime in "Phase 2". While the "Falcons" have won the last two games, ASH recently lost for the first time after seven games in a row without a loss. They lost with 4:1 at league leader Ljubljana.

On Wednesday, December 30th, the winning streak of the EC Bregenzerwald came to an end. In the Vorarlberg derby against the EHC Lustenau, the "Wälder" lost for the first time after seven wins in a row. Kitzbühel, in turn, has a losing streak. The Tyroleans have lost all of their last five games. Most recently, they suffered two defeats against the VEU Feldkirch (1:2 & 2:3). In the standings, the KEC is only on 13th place, with 15 points and thus at the moment outside the playoff places. The ECB is seventh with 25 points. Both teams have faced each other three times this season. In the Return-2-Play, Kitzbühel won clearly with a total score of 9:4. In the following duel, Bregenzerwald managed a 3:1 away win. It was the seventh victory of the "Wälder" over the "Eagles" in the 17th AHL duel.

The Rittner Buam would like to surprise as recently, on Saturday, December 26th, against the HC Pustertal Wölfe. At that time the "Buam" prevailed against the "Wölfe" with 4:3 after shootout. It was Ritten's second victory over Pustertal in the third duel of the season. However, the Return-2-Play duel was still won by Pustertal with a total score of 7:6. Normally the games between the two teams are always even. In 17 duels so far, Ritten has celebrated nine victories and thus leads the H2H by a narrow margin of one win. Nevertheless, Pustertal is the favorite in this match. In the past seven games, PUS always scored points. With 33 points, the South Tyroleans are tied with Ljubljana at the top of the table. Ritten is tenth in the table with 19 points.

In the fifth and final game on Saturday it will be the duel of the HC Gherdeina valgardena.it with the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. From the past five games, both teams managed only one victory each. On the last matchday, both teams conceded 4:1 away defeats. Gherdeina lost at Ritten and Sterzing at Pustertal. In the standings it is the duel of the twelfth (GHE - 17 points) with the 14th (WSV - 13 points). With Brad McGowan (32 points) and Matt Wilkins (30 points), Gherdeina has two players among the top three in the scorer standings. Only Jakob Stukel (34 points) of Feldkirch is better in terms of scoring. Top scorer on the side of Sterzing is Trevor Gooch with 22 points. GHE won the first and so far only duel of the season on December 26th with 6:3. Brad McGowan and Martin Sullmann Pilser scored twice.

In the only game on Sunday, HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana will face the EHC Lustenau at 17:30. For the EHC it will be the second game within 24 hours. Already on Saturday, January 2nd, the Vorarlberg team will meet the EC-KAC II. Table leader Ljubljana played its last game on Wednesday, December 30th. Against Asiago, the Slovenians prevailed clearly with 4:1, after losing only four days earlier to the same opponent with 5:2. In this season HKO vs. EHC will take place for the first time. In the previous nine AHL duels, the "Dragons" from Ljubljana celebrated seven victories. In the last meeting, on January 29th, 2020, Lustenau won with 3:2 after overtime.Ljubljana will be without suspended Anze Ropret.

At the start of the week, two games are scheduled in the Alps Hockey League. In the first game the SHC Fassa Falcons and the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan face each other. Both teams are already in action on Saturday, January 2nd. The last duel between the two teams was already over a year ago. On December 23rd, 2019, the Broncos won with 4:3 after overtime. In total, the encounter has taken place eight times in the AHL so far. In seven games the WSV prevailed.

In the second game on Monday there will be a top clash. The HC Pustertal Wölfe will duel with Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey. For both teams it will be the second game in 2021. In this season, the encounter has already taken place once. On October 24th, Asiago celebrated a 3:1 home victory. After 31 minutes of play, the hosts already led with 3:0. In the AHL history, the two teams have faced each other 16 times. Pustertal leads in the H2H with 9:7 against the AHL champion of 2018.

Another game will follow next Tuesday. The EC-KAC II will meet the VEU Feldkirch. Both teams meet for the second time this season. On November 28th, the VEU celebrated a narrow 6:5 home win after overtime. The Vorarlberg team already led with 3:1 and 5:2. In nine AHL duels, the Klagenfurt team only won once.
