HK SZ Olimpija continues to be one of the league's most in-form teams. In the last ten encounters, only league leaders EC-KAC have collected more points than the Slovenians. On Saturday evening, the Dragons celebrated a 5:2 victory over top-six team HC TIWAG Innsbruck to close the gap to the direct play-off places to five points. HC TIWAG Innsbruck can feel anything but secure in fifth place after their defeat against the Slovenians: They only have a cushion of two points on sixth and seventh place, although both have played two games less.

Bolzano and Pioneers secure important victories
HCB Südtirol Alperia and BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg secured important victories in the battle for the top six and top ten respectively. While the South Tyroleans managed to take another step towards direct playoff qualification, the Vorarlbergers were able to further consolidate their pre-playoff place, especially because the spusu Vienna Capitals also lost. The Capitals led 3:0 after the first period in Bolzano before the HCB's offensive express got rolling, turning the game around in the second period and taking a 4:3 lead. The Capitals had nothing more to offer the South Tyroleans and ultimately lost 3:7. While Bolzano thus took another big step towards direct playoff qualification, the pre-playoff spots are gradually moving out of reach for the spusu Vienna Capitals.

The BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg celebrated a 4:1 victory over the Moser Medical Graz99ers on Saturday evening. The Styrians, who were unable to field a full line-up of three, kept the game open for the first 20 minutes with a self-sacrificing fight. Former 99er Daniel Woger then ensured the preliminary decision with the 3:1. The BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg finally prevailed 4:1 and thus ended Graz's last theoretical chances of qualifying for the pre-playoffs.
