Round 11 of the win2day ICE Hockey League delivered another night of drama and tight battles. HK Olimpija Ljubljana defended their position at the top of the standings with an overtime victory in the top clash against EC Red Bull Salzburg. Only one point behind, HC Pustertal climbed to second place after a hard-fought road win over Pioneers Vorarlberg. The Moser Medical Graz99ers returned to form with a convincing 6:1 triumph in Villach, while both Austrian sides Linz and Innsbruck suffered defeats against the Hungarian teams. Meanwhile, EC-KAC earned a strong win in front of more than 6,000 fans at the Vienna Capitals.
Olimpija defend top spot with OT victory
In the highlight game of the round, league leaders HK Olimpija Ljubljana hosted four-time defending champions EC Red Bull Salzburg — and the matchup lived up to its billing. The home side started with great energy, but the Red Bulls were more clinical, taking a 2:0 lead through a first-period double from Mario Huber. Olimpija struck back late in the period and leveled the score early in the second. In the third, Ziga Pance put the Dragons ahead for the first time, before Connor Corcoran tied the game again with two minutes left. In overtime, league scoring leader T.J. Brennan sealed the win for Ljubljana, who remain atop the standings while Salzburg risk slipping out of the Top-6.
HC Pustertal climb to second
HC Pustertal moved up to second place after a 4:2 road win over Pioneers Vorarlberg. Tommy Purdeller opened the scoring for the Wolves early in the game, but Kevin Macierzynski equalized with a shorthanded goal. Pustertal took control in the middle frame, adding two more to make it 3:1. The Pioneers pulled one back late, but the visitors held firm to secure the three points. The “Wolves from Pustertal” are now just one point behind leaders Olimpija.
Graz99ers back on track
After struggling in recent weeks, the Moser Medical Graz99ers found their scoring touch again in style. The Styrian side delivered a dominant road performance against EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV, leading 2:0 after 22 minutes. Although the hosts briefly cut the deficit, Graz took full control in the third period with four more unanswered goals to win 6:1. Frank Hora scored twice, while five different players added points. The victory lifts Graz back into third place in the standings.
KAC hold off late push in Vienna
EC-KAC claimed a well-deserved 3:2 road win at the Vienna Capitals in front of 6,020 spectators. Fin van Ee opened the scoring late in the first period before Cole Hults tied it up for the Caps. Klagenfurt responded quickly, with goals from Mario Kempe and Mathias From giving them a 3:1 lead. Simon Bourque brought Vienna back within one, but despite heavy late pressure, KAC goaltender Sebastian Dahm stood tall to secure the win. The Red Jackets celebrated their fourth consecutive victory and remain within striking distance of the Top-6 — with one or two games in hand over most rivals.
Hungarian teams celebrate wins
FTC-Telekom Budapest continued their strong run of form with a 3:2 home win over Steinbach Black Wings Linz. FTC built a 3:0 lead midway through the third period, but Linz struck twice in the final 90 seconds to make things tense. The hosts held on, however, to collect another three points and move closer to the playoff positions.
In another tight battle, Hydro Fehérvár AV19 edged HC TIWAG Innsbruck 2:1 in overtime. The Hungarians took an early lead, but Innsbruck equalized minutes later. Despite dominating large parts of the game, Fehérvár couldn’t beat Innsbruck netminder Matthew Vernon again until the extra session, when Joel Messner scored the game-winner just over two minutes into OT.
