Marco Magnabosco (#95) of Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey, time 53:56 was involved in an incident deemed as Boarding (IIHF Rule 41). The video evidence was sent to the win2day ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1 - 'Careless'.

Friday night in Asiago, Asiago forward #95 Marco Magnabosco was assessed a 5-minute Major + Game-Misconduct penalty for an incident deemed as boarding on Innsbruck D'Man #98 Jan Lattner, which caused an apparent injury.

As the video shows, with puck possession and skating through the neutral zone, Lattner is skating to obtain center ice presence in an effort to dump the puck in, as Magnabosco is pinching off Lattner towards the side boards. Magnabosco in a defensive position, delivers a hit that is considered a forceful push to the backside of the opposing player, resulting in Lattner going dangerously into the boards.

This is boarding.

It is important to note the hit Magnabosco delivered is not through the use a legal means of using his shoulder or hip and as a result, used an illegal means in removing his right arm in effort to deliver forceful contact. The delivery point of contact with the free arm is considered dangerous for 2 reasons. The first being the location of the push to the shoulder area of Lattner, which propels Lattner in a position where his head leads first. Second, is the delivery point of contact is at a vulnerable time of a player in act of shooting puck and location from the boards, leaving Lattner with limited possibilities to protect himself.

If Magnabosco wants to deliver a hit, he must either skate to gain a presence that allows him to make a hit through the use of his shoulder or hip and maintain his free arm as to not use it as the execution point of delivery to make a hit. The ICE Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Marco Magnabosco for 1 game and fined 200.00 euros.

To summarize:

  1. This is boarding
  2. Dangerous distance from the boards
  3. Forceful arm push to back of opponent
