Matt Bradley (#77) of spusu Vienna Capitals, time 51:38 was involved in an incident deemed as Cross-Checking (IIHF Rule 59). The video evidence was sent to the win2day ICE Hockey League PSC, which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1 - 'Careless'.

Sunday night in Ljubljana, Vienna center man #77 Matt Bradley was involved in an incident deemed as cross-checking on Ljubljana forward #68 Marc-Olivier Vallerand resulting in a 5 minute major penalty and a game-misconduct being assessed.

As the video shows, with Bradley making an outlet pass to a teammate in which Vallerand read and reacted to by making both a routine and legal body check, created an incident in which Bradley, taking exception to the body check, skated directly to Vallerand and initiates contact. The contact was delivered by a high, forceful cross check to the back of Vallerand.

This is cross-checking.

It is important to note, that this is not a case of an incidental action to gain a players attention or the use of a stick in an action whereby a battle can be deemed or a natural cause of players coming together during the course of play. Bradley initiates an incident, whereby his action is deemed overly aggressive and with purpose, striking an unsuspecting opponent from behind and to the high back through his stick, with sufficient force to merit supplementary discipline. We find Bradley's cross check to be retaliatory and aggressive, located to a dangerous spot of an opposing player.

The ICE Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Matt Bradley for 1 game and fined 200.00 euros. In
addition, for the duration of Matt Bradley's suspension spusu Vienna Capitals also loses one (1) spot for non-domestic players
on the game sheet.

To summarize:

  • This is cross-checking
  • Location of cross-check
  • Not a repeat offender
