Nico Kramer (#71) of EC-KAC Future Team, time 06:14, made contact with an opponent deemed as Checking from Behind, IIHF Rule 43. Based on the video evidence, it is determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1 – ‘Careless’ – insufficient attention or thought to avoid harm or error. Liable to happen as a consequence of, by intending to affect an opponent through a reactionary or accidental motion or the incident is deemed careless causing negligence.

Thursday night, September 28th, in Fassa, Klagenfurt Forward #71 Nico Kramer was involved in an incident, deemed as Checking from Behind on Fassa Forward #45 Edgar De Toni, being penalized by the on-ice officials with a 5-minute major penalty and a game-misconduct.

As the video shows, Nico Kramer skates directly behind Edgar De Toni. De Toni plays the puck into the attacking zone and follws. When De Toni is in the proximity of the puck, it appears, he is trying to dump the puck deep into the end zone but misses. While he is trying he gets propelled into the boards directly from behind by Nico Kramer.

This is checking from behind.

It is important to note, for the whole play Nico Kramer has the back numbers of De Toni always visible and could have avoided this check from behind by bringing himself in a better position. The situation is aggravated by the fact, that De Toni is at a dangerous distance from the boards. Instead of gliding behind De Toni, Nico Kramer could have brought himself into a better position by skating hard and angling off De Toni.

Effective immediately, the Alps Hockey League Department of Player Safety has suspended Nico Kramer for
1 game.

To summarize:

  • This is checking from behind
  • Directly into back numbers
  • Dangerous distance from the boards
