Opening defeat for Austria in Four Nations Tournament

In the opening game of the Four Nations Tournament in Jesenice, Austria was narrowly defeated by Belarus with 2:3 after extra time. The goals for Austria were scored by Tim Harnisch (9.) and Alexander Lahoda (37.). Next opponent of Austria will be France, which won 3:2 against Slovenia on Thursday, on Friday at 15:30. At the three-day Euro ICE Hockey Challenge in Budapest, Hungary celebrated a 4:1 victory over Italy.

No less than 22 players of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League are in action for Austria at the Four Nations Tournament in Jesenice. Belarus was the opponent in the first game. The A-World Cup participant from Eastern Europe took the lead against a young Austrian team both with 1:0 and with 2:1. Both times Team Red-White-Red was able to answer promptly. In the ninth minute of the game, Tim Harnisch of the EC Red Bull Salzburg equalized to make it 1:1. After that, Austria was the better team for long stretches of the game, but also fall behind in the second period. This time Alexander Lahoda of the Steinbach Black Wings Linz was able to equalize in the 37th minute of play.

In the final period, there were still numerous chances on both sides, but no goals were scored. Shortly before the end of the period Austria conceded a penalty, so the overtime had to be started shorthanded. It took only 53 seconds before Mikhail Kovalyov scored the game-winner for Belarus. Next opponent for Austria will be France on Friday at 15:30. In the last game of the tournament Austria will face host Slovenia on Saturday at 15:30.
