The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan have been narrowly beaten in both semi-final games so far by EK Die Zeller Eisbären. After a 1:3 opening defeat in Zell am See, they lost 2:4 in front of their home crowd on Thursday, with an empty-net goal being the final decider in each case. The 26-year-old captain of the Broncos, Paul Eisendle, remains optimistic despite the two defeats and sees small things as the decisive factor.

“The game was at a very high level, both teams didn't give each other anything and we saw that we were on an equal footing. Small things ultimately decided the game,” said Paul Eisendle, analyzing Thursday's narrow 2:4 defeat.

The Sterzing native and two-time Italian international has spent his entire career with the Broncos and is delighted with the team's sporting rise in recent years. After all, the team has reached the semi-finals of the Alps Hockey League for the second time in a row: “I'm extremely proud. I've known the club since my youth, I've invested many years here - and to see how we've developed athletically is something very special. A lot of hard work has gone into it and the fact that we are now regularly playing at the top is great confirmation.”

A decisive factor for success is the support of the fans, who cheer their team on loudly at home matches. “Our fans push us enormously - especially at home, we feel this special energy from the stands. But the expectations surrounding the team also come primarily from ourselves. We as a team have set ourselves high goals, but we don't see that as pressure, but as a challenge. And it is precisely this challenge that we want to accept and confirm.”

In order to reach the final for the first time, the Broncos will have to overturn a 0:2 series deficit against Zell am See - a difficult task, especially as the Master Round champions are still unbeaten in the playoffs. But the forward, who has scored 19 points so far this season, remains optimistic: “Our tough style of play, our team spirit and our fitness level are our strengths - if we stay focused, take our chances and give everything from the first to the last minute, anything is still possible in the upcoming games.”

Semi-final three takes place on Saturday at 19:30 in Zell am See. For all those who can't make it to the arena, the game can be watched in the livestream on www.valcome.tv.
