EC Red Bull Salzburg started the final series against EC-KAC with a narrow 2:1/OT away win. RBS defenseman Paul Stapelfeldt is satisfied and relieved that they were able to win the final opener on Friday in Klagenfurt. The 26-year-old from Upper Austria has been playing in Salzburg since his youth and has been an integral part of the team in the past three championship years.

“After a week's break, it wasn't so easy to get back into the rhythm straight away. The KAC pushed the pace right from the start and you could see that we're not yet at our A-game. On days like this, it's all the more important to stand strong defensively and get the job done. That also makes the win special and is important for self-confidence,” said Stapelfeldt.

The 26-year-old has played a total of 221 win2day ICE Hockey League games to date and has already been on the ice 47 times in the playoffs. The three-time Austrian champion will make his 48th postseason appearance on Sunday in the second final game against the EC-KAC. His expectations for the home game are as follows: “I expect a similar game on Sunday - a lot of speed and two teams at eye level. We have to step it up a notch and impose our game on the KAC even more.”
