Release from 04.10.2024
The Moser Medical Graz99ers are now at the top of the standings for the first time this season after the fifth round of the win2day ICE Hockey League. While the Styrians managed a 4-2 win away against EC-KAC, maintaining their unbeaten record, both HCB Südtirol Alperia and Olimpija Ljubljana suffered their first losses. Asiago celebrated its first win of the season in Bolzano, clinching a dominant 8-2 victory in the “Grande Classico.” Innsbruck secured its first shutout of the season against Ljubljana. Additionally, Hydro Fehérvár AV19, the Steinbach Black Wings Linz, and EC Red Bull Salzburg also claimed victories. Salzburg triumphed in overtime against the Pioneers Vorarlberg.
The Moser Medical Graz99ers continue their winning streak – with their fifth consecutive victory, the Styrians have achieved their longest season-opening win streak in 25 years of league play. And that’s not all: thanks to HCB Südtirol Alperia’s simultaneous defeat, the Styrians find themselves on top of the standings for the first time this season. Against EC-KAC, the Graz99ers secured a 4-2 win on Friday after an early deficit. The league’s top scorer, Mathias From of KAC, had to leave the ice due to an injury in the first period and did not return.
Asiago and Innsbruck Hand Ljubljana and Bolzano Their First Losses
Friday night in Bolzano saw two major firsts. Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey clinched their first win of the season, defeating the former league leaders from Bolzano in the "Grande Classico," handing the Foxes their first loss in convincing fashion. After an evenly matched first period, the North Italians launched an offensive barrage in the second period, scoring four goals. The offensive onslaught continued in the final frame, with Asiago claiming an 8-2 win, including a hat-trick by Carter Turnbull.
HC TIWAG Innsbruck became the first "Dragon Slayer" of the season. After four games without a loss, Olimpija Ljubljana suffered their first defeat. Innsbruck celebrated a solid 3-0 win at home on Friday, marking their first shutout victory, which moved them up to seventh in the standings.
Victories for Salzburg, Linz, and Fehérvár
The Pioneers Vorarlberg gave EC Red Bull Salzburg a run for their money in Feldkirch, engaging in an exciting offensive shootout. The Vorarlberg team took the lead both in the first and second periods, at times holding a two-goal advantage. However, the Red Bulls rallied each time, with Thomas Raffl contributing a brace to tie the game 5-5, sending it to overtime. Ryan Murphy scored the game-winner for Salzburg, pushing the reigning champions to third place in the standings.
After a rough start to the season, the Steinbach Black Wings Linz have now secured their second win in a row. HC Pustertal put up a tough fight, with both teams going toe-to-toe for much of the game. In the final period, however, head coach Phil Lukas' team held firm defensively and celebrated two goals of their own, securing a 4-2 win in Bruneck. Linz now sits in eighth place.
The spusu Vienna Capitals and Hydro Fehérvár AV19 faced off in Vienna during the “Bring Your Heroes” night, in a closely contested match for much of the game. It wasn’t until the final period that the Hungarians pulled away, clinching their third win of the season from five games. The Capitals, on the other hand, suffered their third consecutive loss.
