EK Zeller Eisbären caused the biggest surprise on Alps Hockey League game day 20, beating Rittner Buam 3:1 at home. The persecutor duo Jesenice and Asiago closed up to the leader with home wins. With Neumarkt and Gherdeina two teams who are far behind in the standings earned important points.
HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice - S.G. Cortina Hafro 5:1 (2:0, 1:1, 2:0)
In tonight‘s game the home team were better from the start. After eight minutes the home team went in front after a penalty shot from Luka Bašič. Cortina also had some chances but Jesenice goalie Clarke Saunders came big with a couple of saves. The Slovenes doubled the lead in the 14th minute after a goal from captain Andrej Tavželj. Only 7 minutes into the second period Corina managed the get on the scoreboard: Zack Torquato passed the puck in front of the goal and the leagues best scorer Riley Brace scored from close range. Only five minutes later young Erik Svetina escaped the defence and scored on a great breakaway. In the third period the visitors could not bring back tension to the game. With eight minutes to go David Planko made it a three-goal lead and Svetina rounded off the scoring with his second of the night.
HC Neumarkt Riwega - HC Fassa Falcons 7:4 (0:0, 2:3, 5:1)
The first period was played by both formations in a less convincing way. The first line of the Falcons produced some appreciable actions but nothing more against the Neumarkt who was absent on ice somewhat. The first time ended without any goal. Totally an another story during the second period. After two minutes Mattia Bernard, former Neumarkt's player, made the first net in favor of Fassa. But around mid-game, the Wild Geese tied with a rebound from Martin Graf and then they took the lead with Tobias Brighenti with a shot from blue line in powerplay (33.). But the Falcons answered after just one minute with the draw of Devin Di Diomete. Then when there was missing only one second at the end of time there was the point of Bernard. Fassa closed the 2th period ahead of one goal (2:3). In the third time the music changed again. Joseph Harcharik scored the draw for the home team but surely one of the most important goals of the match was that of Michael Sullmannn who in the counter-attack leaded Neumarkt to new advantage (53rd). After this goal the home team grew in the game. Jakub Muzik, at the end of another counterattack, scored 5: 3. Then again the home team that found the new score of Brighenti. Former Paolo Bustreo tried to reopen the game but the final seal was still of Muzik. Neumarkt won 7:4 as they earned the first win of the season so far inside the regular time.
EK Zeller Eisbären - Rittner Buam 3:1 (0:1, 1:0, 2:0)
The hosts could keep pace with leader Ritten from the first minute with both sides playing very disciplined. Shortly before the first intermission Ivan Tauferer made the breakthrough for a 1:0 Ritten lead. In the middle frame Zell am See stepped up once more, having the better of the play now. Ritten's attacks were stopped by EKZ goalie Dominik Frank who showed a great performance. With 37 seconds to go in the second Petr Vala scored the deserved equalizer. The 1.100 fans saw an even-balanced third period and the Austrians turned it around after 48 minutes: Vala passed to Frederik Widen, who found the back of the net. After a Ritten timeout, the visitors tried to tie it in a final push but even when they pulled their goalie the leader was not able to score. At the other end Gregor Koblar made the game safe with an empty netter.
WSV Sterzing Broncos Weihenstephan - EHC Alge Elastic Lustenau 2:4 (2:1, 0:0, 0:3)
The match was already exciting since the first face off. Philipp Koczera's offensive counterattack was not capitalized. Vipiteno answered later with a nice action thanks to Ben Duffy's goal and Zdnek Bahensky's assist. But the game was very balanced. Lustenau tied in powerplay with Yan Stastny in the middle thanks to a double rebound. But Vipiteno was back as leader with a close-range shot by Denny Deanesi. In the final, of the period still Sterzing made good opportunities with Jure Sotlar and Matthias Mantinger. During the second period, the protagonists became the goalkeepers of the two teams, which was good and lucky ones as they didn’t take any goal in the central period. In the third time Lustenau scored three goals and the Broncos nobody. At the beginning of the period there was the tie of Maximilian Wilfan (2:2). Then the game keept in balance until to Jason De Santis's net after 56 minutes. The player of Lustenau made a very heavy goal in the economy of the game during a powerplay. The same defender fixed the final result with an empty net goal. Lustenau won in Sterzing 4:2 as the Broncos found the 2th defeat in a row.
HC Pustertal Wolves - EC 'Die Adler' Stadtwerke Kitzbühel 2:1 (1:0, 1:1, 0:0)
Die Gastgeber mussten ohne David Laner, Maximilian Leitner und Thomas Erlacher auskommen, im Tor startete Alexander Kinkelin. Pustertal gab im ersten Abschnitt auch den Ton an und kreierten einige gute Möglichkeiten. Nach mehreren verpassten Gelegenheiten war es dann Eric Johansson, der per Abpraller erfolgreich war und den einzigen Treffer im Eröffnungsdrittel erzielte. Nur 27 Sekunden nach Wiederbeginn war es erneut Johansson, der nach seinem Tor zum 2:0 jubelnd abdrehte. Der HCP verabsäumte es nun, die Partie vorzeitig zu seinen Gunsten zu entscheiden. Im Verlauf des Drittels wurde Kitzbühel nun immer stärker, Oleg Sislannikovs belohnte sein Team mit dem Anschlusstreffer in Überzahl. Pustertal verpasste es danach, die Zwei-Tore-Führung wiederherzustellen. Ein ähnliches Bild zeigte sich dann im dritten Drittel, wobei den Tiroler der Ausgleich nicht mehr gelang. Durch den knappen 2:1-Erfolg eroberten die Südtiroler den fünften Tabellenrang.
HC Gherdeina valgardena.it - EC KAC II 8:2 (2:1, 3:1, 3:0)
David Laner, Maximilian Leitner and Thomas Erlacher was absent for home team. The starting goalkeeper was Alexander Kinkelin. The home team played very well in the first period as they created several occasions. The most important chance was the post struck by Eric Pance. After numerous effort Eric Johansson scored the first goal of the match after the second rebound. This goal was the only in the first period. 27 seconds played of the middle and Johansson made a difference as he scored the doubling of the Wolves with a nice shot at the crossing of the intersection. Then Pustertal continued its game but they failed to be more concrete in attack zone. Kitzbühel began to grow in the game. Oleg Sislannikovs scored at the end of a great action in powerplay in the middle. The game was re-opened as Brunico was not ready to score. The same theme remained in the third time but the austrian team didn’t succeed. The Pustertal won 2:1 as they found the 5th place in the standings.
Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey - FBI VEU Feldkirch 3:0 (1:0, 1:0, 1:0)
The match between Gherdeina and KAC II came immediately emotional. The visitors took the lead after 63 seconds with Benjamin Rassl. The "Furies" answered after six minutes with Linus Lundström pointing during a powerplay action. Shortly thereafter Radek Deyl doubled for Wolkstein’s tema. In the continuation there was the commitment of both teams, but neither of them succeeded in further scoring. After the first break the match was very physical with several penalties. One of these penalties Gabriel Vinatzer scored the third goal of the home team, before Gabriel Senoner made the “poker” for the Gherdeina. The Austrians halved the distance with Kevin Schettina (37.). But before the second whistle, Colin Long scored another goal for the italian team. During the third period, the protagonist was Derek Eastman who scored two goals in the first three minutes of the time. Then Andreas Vinatzer scored the last goal as he fixed the final score (8:2) in favor of Gherdeina. The team of Patrice Lefebvre scored four goal in powerplay.
