Philippe Lakos of the Vienna Capitals Silver got suspended for two games because of an contact with an opponent deemed as a Check to the Head or Neck.

(#4) Philippe Lakos of the Vienna Capitals Silver, time 34:10, made contact with an opponent deemed as a Check to the Head or Neck, IIHF Rule 124. The video evidence was sent to the AHL Player Safety Committee (PSC), which determined the incident to be worthy of supplementary discipline - Category 1 – ‘Careless’ – insufficientattentionor thought to avoid harm or error. Liable to happen as a consequence of, by intending to affectan opponent through a reactionary or accidental motion or the incident is deemed careless causing negligence.

According to the Arbitratorand having considered the video evidence and ruling of the AHL PSC, player (#4) Philippe Lakos of the Vienna Capitals Silver, will receive supplementary discipline under rule 124 – Checking to the Head or Neck.

On Saturday,October 5th, (#4) Philippe Lakos of Vienna Capitals Silver, was involved in an incident deemed as a check to the head. Due to a neutral zone turnover, the opposing team gained puck possession. In a transition from the neutral zone towards the attacking zone, the attacking team made a pass where the pass was received on the high side and back hand of teammate.This created the opposing player to be focused towards the neutral zone as Philippe Lakos entered from his defending zone.
As the video shows, the attacking player must be prepared and suspecting of a body check. As the check occurred, Philippe Lakos did elevate slightly with his left shoulder, making direct and significant head contact to the opposing player. The opposing player did not significantly alter his body position which would be deemed the caused of the head contact.
It has been determined that Lakos Philippe check was not legal. He must avoid head contact,which when making a 90* (head-on) check as a tall person - keeping shoulder height to make contact - must be lower than opposing players head.

Effectiveimmediately, (#4) Philippe Lakos is suspended for 2 games*.
1 game suspension for the check to the head incident and 1 game under the AHL repeat offender rule, for a total of 2 games.
