Preseason underway | Further roster activities

With Thursday, August 19th the preseason in the Alps Hockey League is finally underway. A total of 14 games are scheduled for the next four days – several teams will play twice. In the three scrimmages already played during the current week, the home teams earned wins each. In addition to the preseason activities, the AHL clubs have also announced further roster updates.

Both on Monday and Wednesday, SHC Fassa Falcons had preseason games scheduled: the Italians first celebrated – thanks to goals from Schivone, Deluca and Trotter – a 3:1 victory against league rival HC Gherdeina valgardena.it, but then lost to S.G. Cortina Hafro. Last year's quarterfinalists won 3:1, already ahead by three goals after two periods. Vienna Capitals Silver had a good start into the preseason, beating Ferencvarosi TC 8:1.

16 preseason games until Sunday
A total of 16 gmes of the AHL clubs are scheduled until Sunday. Red Bull Hockey Juniors (vs. HC Benatky Nad Jizerou from Czech Republic), EHC Bregenzerwald (vs. EHC Chur from Switzerland) and HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice (vs. Ferencvarosi TC from Hungary) will face international opponents. The EC-KAC Future Team will take on EK Zell am See, while the EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel host league returnees Vienna Capitals Silver. HC Gherdeina valgardena.it welcomes S.G. Cortina Hafro in another AHL-internal test.

Other teams in tournament action
The Vorarlberghalle will host the second edition of the Valcome.TV Tournament starting Friday. Host BEMER VEU Feldkirch plays the Steel Wings Linz, in the second semifinal duel EHC Lustenau awaits EHC Arosa (CH). On Saturday, the game for the third place and the final will take place. League newcomer HC Meran invites to the first Hansjörg Brunner Memorial and opens their preseason campaign against ICE finalist HCB Südtirol Alperia in its semifinal. In parallel, league rivals Rittner Buam and Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan will meet.

Further roster activities
Martin Mairitsch will no longer be available to BEMER VEU Feldkirch for the upcoming season. After six seasons, the 35-year-old moved to the German club EV Lindau Islanders. Mairitsch scored 142 points (92G|50A) for VEU.

The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan have extended seven contracts: Dominik Bernard, Michael Messner, Hannes Oberdörfer, Alex Planatscher, Tommy Gschnitzer, Paul Eisendle and René Deluca remain with the South Tyroleans. The Steel Wings Linz have strengthened the defense and signed 20-year-old Latvian Arturs Brikmanis. Most recently he played in Riga. Last year's finalist Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey continues with Daniel Mantenuto and Marco Rosa, while EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel signed Slovakian defenseman Henrich Jabornik.
