The HC Pustertal Wölfe won the duel against the Rittner Buam despite a 4:6 first leg defeat. The "Wolves" prevailed in the return match with 3:0 after Overtime. The overtime was necessary because it was 6:6 after the regular playing time. The VEU Feldkirch also won with 3:0 at home against the EHC Lustenau, so they won the duel despite a first leg defeat. The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan also won the second leg after a defeat in the first leg. The two Slovenian representatives HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice and HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana had no problems in the second leg. The HKO succeeded a blowout against the EC KAC II (12:3). The SHC Fassa Falcons suffered a narrow 3:4 home defeat against HC Gherdeina valgardena.it at their season's debut. The return match will follow on Saturday in Val Gardena.
Pustertal prevails against Ritten despite first leg defeat
The HC Pustertal Wölfe won the duel against the Rittner Buam despite a 4:6 first leg defeat due to a 3:0 overtime victory in the second leg. In front of 450 spectators it took until the 48th minute before Ivan Althuber scored the first goal of the evening in the powerplay. About four minutes later Brett Perlini increased the score to 2:0 and with the overall score of 6:6 the duel had to be decided in extra time. In this it was Massimo Carozza who scored the decisive goal for Pustertal after three minutes and two seconds. Man of the match was Colin Furlong. The goalkeeper of PUS saved all 20 shots on his goal.
Feldkirch turns duel against Lustenau
The VEU Feldkirch won the duel against EHC Lustenau despite a 3:4 first leg defeat. In the big „Vorarlbergderby“ the VEU won the second leg with 3:0. The man of the match, besides VEU goalkeeper Alex Caffi, who was able to save all 39 shots on his goal, was Jakob Stukel with two goals. The Canadian Dylan Stanley made assists to all three goals. For Feldkirch it was the ninth derby victory over Lustenau in the AHL. In the return 2-play duels it was the second victory for the VEU. The EHC had to accept the first defeat.
Blowout of Ljubljana over KA2
The HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana succeeded a blowout in the second leg against the KA2. With 12:3 the Slovenians finished the Austrian farm team. Especially in period number two and period number three the AHL champion of 2019 showed his full ability. They scored a total of ten goals in these two periods. Seven different players scored goals for the HKO. All in all, Ljubljana clearly won the duel with Klagenfurt with 16:4. The first leg ended with 4:1.
Jesenice with last minute victory in Linz
After HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice's clear 5:0 victory over the Steel Wings Linz in the first leg, the Slovenians also won the second leg in Linz. The 4:2 away win, however, was hard-won. The Steel Wings showed an improvement compared to the last games and even took the lead twice. The 1:0 lead by Tobias Fender lasted for just under ten minutes, the 2:1 lead by Adam Fedor for only 52 seconds. The 2:2 lasted until the last minute of the game, before Blaz Tomazevic scored the goal to make it 3:2 for Jesenice. Only a few seconds later, Erik Svetina made the final decision in favor of the Slovenians, who earned the first victory in the second Return 2-Play-Duel.
No chance for Red Bull Hockey Juniors agaisnt Sterzing in the second leg
The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan prevailed against the Red Bull Hockey Juniors surprisingly clearly with 5:1 in the second leg. The first leg was won by Salzburg with 3:2. The Broncos thus managed to turn around a first leg defeat in the second duel of the Return-2-Play matches. Already after nine minutes of play Sterzing led with 2:0. Trevor Gooch scored twice. Goal number three and four were scored in period number two. In the final period Matthias Mantinger even increased the score to 5:0. Elias Lindner scored the consolation goal for Salzburg six minutes before the end of the game.
Fassa loses season kickoff
The SHC Fassa Falcons started the season delayed. After the first duel of the "Falcons", against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey, had to be cancelled because of Covid-19, the S.G. Cortina Hafro Hockey, Fassa's second opponent, is also in quarantine due to positive Covid-19 cases. As a result, the duel against HC Gherdeina valgardena.it was played tonight and on Saturday. At their season debut the Falcons lost with 4:3. After a scoreless first 20 minutes, four goals were scored in the second period. Both teams scored twice. Right at the beginning of the last period Michael Sullmann Pilser scored the 3:2 for Val Gardena. Mathew Wilkins increased the lead to 4:2 eight minutes before the end and Roland Hofer was able to shorten it again for Fassa. The outcome of this duel is therefore open for the return match on Saturday in Val Gardena.
