The HC Pustertal Wölfe is the new leader of the Alps Hockey League. The runner-up of the past season won 3:1 against the Red Bull Hockey Juniors and profited from a 2:5 defeat of the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey. In the first duel of the two league newcomers, the Vienna Capitals Silver won 3:1 against the Steel Wings Linz. With the Rittner Buam and HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana, two teams of the Alps Hockey League are currently in action in the Continental Cup. While Olimpija has already conceded two defeats, Ritten plays against FTC Jégkorong for the group victory and thus the promotion to the next round on Sunday.
Jesenice wins surprisingly clearly against Feldkirch
After three defeats in series, the HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice clearly defeated the VEU Feldkirch with 4:0. For the Austrians it was the first defeat after three wins in a row. After just over six minutes, the home side were in the lead with 2:0. As a result, the Slovenes continued to be the leading team. With 20:7 shots period one ended. In the middle period the West Austrians came better in the game. However, they could not achieve a goal. The decision fell just eight minutes before the end of the match by Erik Svetina. Per Empty Net JES finally increased to 4:0.
Capitals Silver victorious in the first duel with the Steel Wings Linz
In the first meeting of the two league newcomers the Vienna Capitals Silver kept the upper hand against the Steel Wings Linz with 3:1. It was the second victory of the Viennese this season, the first after five defeats in a row. In the league table, they are in 17th place. Linz remains at the bottom of the league table with two points. All four goals were shot in the first half of the game. Three of the four goals were scored in the powerplay.
Vipiteno loses game and top of the league
The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan lost against Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey for the eleventh time in a row! Despite a 1:0 lead, the Broncos lost the match with 2:5. As the HC Pustertal Wölfe won the game, Sterzing must hand over the league lead to the Wölfe. For Asiago it was the second win in a row. Therefore they are now in sixth playe in the league table. The sticking point of the game was the beginning of the second period when Simone Olivero scored the 2:2 in numerical disadvantage for Asiago. After that, the guests set the tone and could add three more goals.
Bregenzerwald victorious over Zell am See
The EC Bregenzerwald celebrated a close 3:2 home win over the EK The Zeller Eisbären. For the Vorarlberger it was the third season's success, the second in front of the home crowd in a row. For Zell am See it was the second defeat out of the last six games. The first goal fell in the 36th minute by Daniel Ban for the ECB. Thereupon Bregenzerwald could add two more goals. The final offensive of Zell am See was too late. They could just score the 2:3. Tomorrow, the EK Die Zeller Eisbären will play again. The road trip in Vorarlberg continues in Lustenau.
Lustenau with victory after shootout
On Thursday, the EC "Die Adler" Stadtwerke Kitzbühel won against Jesenice after a 3:0 deficit with 4: 3 OT. On Saturday they missed a similar comeback. Despite a 1:0 lead for the Tyroleans the Vorarlberger were able to turn the game and led with 3:1. But again the KEC showed morale and was able to shoot the equaliser. Since no decision fell in the overtime, it went into the penalty shootout. In this Colin Long scored the decisive goal for Lustenau. On the side of Lustenau new signing Mark Hurtubise was not in the squad. The Canadian replaced Matt Carter. The home game double of the EHC Lustenau will continue against the EK Die Zeller Eisbären on Sunday at 17:30.
Pustertal goes top of the league
The HC Pustertal Wölfe is the new leader of the Alps Hockey League. The South Tyroleans defeated the Red Bull Hockey Juniors with 3:1 in front of their home crowd and profited from a defeat of the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. In front of 820 spectators PUS took the lead in the ninth minute with a powerplay goal from Roland Hofer. Max Oberrauch was able to double the lead in the 14th minute. At the beginning of the second period the young bulls shortened by Tim Harnisch but only a few minutes later, Armin Hofer restored the two-goal lead for Pustertal. In the final period no further goals fell. While PUS take the lead for the first time this season and have already celebrated the sixth victory in series, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors are already four games without a win. In the table this means the 15th place.
Val Gardena scored game-winning-goal in numerical disadvantage
The HC Gherdeina valgardena.it beat the EC-KAC II with 2:1. The decisive goal was scored by Bradley McGowan in numerical disadvantage. The first goal for Val Gardena was scored by Simon Pitschieler in the powerplay. The equalizer was scored by Philipp Kreuzer. For Gherdeina it was the second victory in a row, which is why they are in seventh place in the league table now. The KA2 conceded the seventh defeat from the last eight games, which is why they are in 13th place.
Ritten and Ljubljana are at Continental Cup in action
This weekend not in the Alps Hockey League but in the Continental Cup in action are the Rittner Buam, as well as the HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana. While the Slovenians have already conceded two defeats (1:2 SO against Ritten and 2:3 against FTC Jégkorong), Ritten will play, after a clear 10:1 win over Urdin, against FTC Jégkorong for the group win and thus promotion into the next round on Sunday.
