Pustertal goes top of the standings

On the first matchday of the new year all three home teams won. The HC Pustertal Wölfe won with 5:3 against the Rittner Buam and took the lead in the standings. In the „Westderby“, the EC Bregenzerwald celebrated a 5:2 victory over the EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel. It was the eighth win from the past nine games for the ECB. In the third game of the day, the HC Gherdeina valgardena.it celebrated a 6:3 home win over the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. Brad McGowan and Matt Wilkins scored a brace. The games EC-KAC II against the EHC Lustenau (medical precautionary measures) and Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey against SHC Fassa Falcons (bad weather) had to be postponed indefinitely.

With 5:3 the HC Pustertal Wölfe prevailed against the Rittner Buam and celebrated the second victory in the fourth duel this season. The guests from Ritten, who won the last duel after shootout, took the lead both with 1:0 and with 2:1. From the 30th minute, the home side finally took charge. After Ivan Althuber's 2:2 in minute 33, PUS scored two more goals in the second period. In the final period, the new league leader even increased to 5:2. Pustertal's lead in the standings over the HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana are three points. However, the Slovenians have played two games less. Ritten is on the eleventh place in the standings. 

Clear victory of Bregenzerwald against Kitbühel
The EC Bregenzerwald celebrated a clear 5:2 home victory against the EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel. While the team from Vorarlberg already celebrated the eighth win out of the last nine games, the team from Tyrol suffered the sixth defeat in a row. In the standings, ECB moves up to the fourth place, KEC is 13th. Bregenzerwald's scoring started in the fifth minute of the game. Julian Metzler scored his tenth goal of the season. In total, five different players scored for Bregenzerwald. After the first period, the home side already led with 3:0. In the second and third periods, both teams scored one goal each.

Val Gardena celebrates second win of the season over Vipiteno
Also in the third game of the day the home team celebrated a clear victory. In this match, the HC Gherdeina valgardena.it celebrated the second win of the season over the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. In the 6:2 win, Matt Wilkins and Brad McGowan shone with a brace. On the side of Sterzing Ryan Valentini scored twice. For the ninth-placed team from Val Gardena it was the first win after two recent defeats. The Broncos conceded the fourth defeat from the last five games. As 14th in the standings, the WSV is currently outside the playoff spots. With 35 points BradMc Gowan took over the lead in the scorer standings. The 30-year-old replaced his compatriot jakob Stukel from the VEU Feldkirch from the top (34 points). Matt Wilkins scored 33 points and is in third place.
