Pustertal qualified for quarterfinals

Ohne den gesperrten Miha Zajc startete Olimpija sehr druckvoll in das Spiel, die Gäste waren vorerst mit Defensivarbeit beschäftigt. Die Hausherren kamen im Verlauf des Drittels auch zu einigen guten Chancen, scheiterten aber im Abschluss und an Gröden-Goalie Misa Pietilä. Zwar überstanden die Südtiroler nach Wiederbeginn eine Unterzahl, nur wenige Sekunden später traf Gregor Koblar (25’) zur Führung. Die nächste Strafe gegen die Gäste führte dann direkt zum zweiten Treffer, Žan Jezovšek erhöhte auf 2:0. Die Gäste fanden im Mittelabschnitt aber immer besser ins Spiel und verkürzten durch einen Powerplay-Treffer von Simon Pitschieler auf 2:1. Die „Furie“ konnte auch im dritten Drittel phasenweise gut mithalten, in der 54. Minute nützten die Hausherren aber eine doppelte Überzahl - Aleš Kranjc zum 3:1. Gröden gab nie auf und kam durch Francesco De Biasio noch einmal heran, der zweite Jezovšek-Treffer sorgte dann aber für die Vorentscheidung. Als die Gäste ihren Goalie vom Eis nahmen, traf Anej Kujavec zum 5:2-Endstand. Mit dem fünften Sieg in Folge sicherten die Slowenen den zweiten Tabellenplatz weiter ab.

Second consecutive home game for the Wolves of Pustertal who faced the EC-KAC II after the defeat suffered in the last round against Kitzbuhel at overtime. Bruneck, as in the last match, couldn’t have Marko Virtala, Helfer and Erlacher. In Klagenfurt there was Nate Di Casmirro who played for three seasons in Bruneck including the last edition of the AHL. The start of the game was as expected: the yellow-black players led the operations of the game trying not to miss anything while the Austrian team struggled on every puck but must play in cover. At mid-term the result changes after the first penalty of the match whistled to Valentin Hammerle for slashing. During the powerplay, Simon Berger was in the right place at the right time as he scored the only goal of the first period. In the second period, the home team increased his intensity minute by minute as they doubled with a slap-shot by Max Oberrauch (26') and then with a shot from a slipped position by Captain Armin Hofer at 45 seconds from the second break. The Klagenfurt, however, played his game in full swing and with an open face. In the third period the Wolves defended the result but then took two penalties. On the second infringement, Valentin Hammerle scored the first goal of Klagenfurt-II. But the game was firmly on the sticks of the home team that then achieved the goal of the final 4:1 with Teemu Virtala well in advance (58'). The leaders of AHL returned to victory as they maintained a 13-point lead over Ljubljana, who won at home. But the most important thing was that HC Pustertal was the first team qualified for the playoffs.
