win2day ICE Hockey League | 05.03.2024 | Quarterfinals 2:
Tue, 05.03.2024, 19:15: EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV (#6) - HCB Südtirol Alperia (#4)
Current score in the best-of-seven series: 0:1
Referees: Groznik, Nikolic M., Bärnthaler, Bedynek | >>live.ice.hockey<<

For EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV, there was nothing to be gained in the first quarter-final game at HCB Südtirol Alperia. The Eagles were beaten 2:5 - their comeback in the final period came too late. The Villach team is now all the more determined to equalize in front of their home crowd on Tuesday. To do so, they will have to stop Daniel Frank, among others, who is currently appearing as a strong goalscorer: After scoring a brace in the penultimate game of the regular season, he promptly repeated this at the start of the quarter-final. Villach must build on the last few minutes of the first quarter-final, in which they were able to build up a lot of pressure. Bolzano had Villach firmly under control in the first two periods, not only creating more chances but also building up a clear lead. However, the South Tyroleans' power play could be improved. They only had the eleventh-best power play in the regular season, and also failed to capitalize on two overtime opportunities in the first playoff game.

Tue, 05.03.2024, 19:15: Steinbach Black Wings Linz (#5) - EC Red Bull Salzburg (#3)
Current score in the best-of-seven series: 0:1
Referees: Piragic, Smetana, Nothegger, Snoj | >>live.ice.hockey<<

The Steinbach Black Wings Linz were beaten 0:4 at EC Red Bull Salzburg to open their quarter-final series. In front of their home crowd, the main thing is to avoid penalties in order to equalize the series. A total of 37 penalty minutes severely restricted Head Coach Philipp Lukas' team's play from the second period onwards. The home side made the most of their chances in the special teams and decided the game with a shorthanded goal and two powerplay goals. Shawn St-Amant was responsible for the majority of these penalty minutes with a game-misconduct penalty. However, the Black Wings forward will be ready to play again in the second quarter-final game against Salzburg. For Salzburg, Peter Schneider was particularly impressive after his 43-day injury layoff. He scored a goal and two assists in his comeback and was named the win2day top performer of the game.

Tue, 05.03.2024, 19:30: BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg (#10) - EC-KAC (#1)
Current score in the best-of-seven series: 1:0
Referees: Hronsky, Ofner, Durmis, Konc | >> LIVE on PULS 24 and JOYN <<

The BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg caused a big surprise in the quarter-final opener: against the EC-KAC, the dominator of the regular season, the Vorarlbergers managed a 2-0 victory in the first quarter-final game in their club's history. Nick Pastujov scored the third-fastest playoff goal in league history: He put his team ahead after just 17 seconds. The EC-KAC left the ice without a goal for the second time in a row after failing to score in the last game of the main round. In the history of the KAC since the league was founded, this has only happened two other times. In a best-of-seven series, Klagenfurt have faced a 0:1 deficit 14 times so far, in six of which they were ultimately able to decide the series in their favor. Despite the opening win, the Pioneers had to accept a drop of bitterness: Daniel Woger suffered an injury in the first game of the quarterfinals and will be out for the rest of the season. The second quarter-final game between the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg and the EC-KAC will be broadcast live on PULS 24 and the streaming service JOYN.
