Red Bull Hockey Juniors back in action

After just under a month, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors return to Alps Hockey League action on January 6th and welcome BEMER VEU Feldkirch, currently unbeaten in three games. After the recent high-scoring derby, EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel and EK Die Zeller Eisbären will each play a home game on Thursday.

In Friday’s lone game, Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey travels to the Steel Wings Linz, as the second-placed team has never lost a game against the Upper Austrians.

The Red Bull Hockey Juniors have not played a game in almost a month, with some of their players playing for various junior national teams during this time. Now the Salzburg side return to championship action against BEMER VEU Feldkirch - and want to build on their strong performance before the break: in the last eleven games, the "Juniors" have always taken a point, losing only twice. The first meeting with the Vorarlberg team was a close one, with Salzburg taking the win after shootout. VEU has recently shown a clear improvement in performance, defeating Kitzbühel, Ritten and Lustenau. In the derby, the fifteenth ranked side triumphed 3:0, with Alex Caffi impressing with 50 saves in his first shutout this season. The duels between these two teams have been close lately, only one of the last five games was decided in regulation, VEU won three of them. Adrian Rosenberger will continue to be absent from Feldkirch due to injury. Marcell Revesz and Patrick Stückler, will be back.

EC Die Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel has recently achieved a first liberation with the 7:4 derby victory over Zell am See, as the fourteenth-placed team wants to continue this positive trend against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan, which are two positions higher ranked. In the derby win, the Tyroleans were particularly efficient offensively, scoring seven goals and clearly outperforming their average of 2.86 for the season. However, the defensive performance will be decisive for the "Adler", with 114 goals against or 4.08 on average, they concede the most goals this season after Vienna. The South Tyroleans took a loss to the league leaders on Tuesday, but have scored in three of their last five road games. The two teams are meeting each other for the first time this year. Kitzbühel has won only two of the twelve previous meetings, the last on November 22nd, 2017 (6:2).

For the second time this season EK Die Zeller Eisbären and HC Meran/o Pircher meet each other. In the first duel, the Austrians prevailed 7:2. A recent short high of the Salzburg side - with home victories over Sterzing and Gröden - was stopped, also by the derby defeat. Since the "Eisbären" conceded seven or more goals for the fourth time this season. Meran, in turn, last beat Kitzbühel, won 5:2 and was particularly convincing on the power play. The South Tyroleans successfully completed three PP occasions. In the three games before that, they did not score any on PP. Away, the newcomer suffered defeat four times in a row last time, but before that they could win three quarters of their road games (6/8).

Ahead of the road game at Steel Wings Linz, Migross Supermercati Asiago Hockey has announced the temporary departure of defender Gabriele Parini, as the 19-year-old Italian U20 international moved on loan to HCB Südtirol Alperia in the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League. He scored two goals and three assists in five games for Asiago this season. For the second-placed team from Italy it is the first game of the new year, before the turn of the year they celebrated two victories, scoring an average of five goals. In the five duels with the Linz team so far, Asiago has always come off the ice as the winner, conceding an average of just 1.2 goals per game.
