Release from 30.12.2021
The last round of the bet-at-home ICE Hockey League in 2021 brought very balanced matches. Only one of the six games was decided with more than a two-goal difference. The EC-KAC won with 5:1 at HK SZ Olimpija. League leader EC Red Bull Salzburg kept the upper hand against the Dornbirn Bulldogs with 3:1. It was the eighth win in a row for the Red Bulls. Also undefeated for eight games in a row are the Moser Medical Graz99ers, who thus equaled their own club record. The EC GRAND Immo VSV was already trailing 0:3 against the HCB Südtirol Alperia, to win 4:3-OT in the end. Hydro Fehérvár AV19 and the HC Pustertal Wölfe kept the upper hand in the remaining two games.
Graz equalize club record
The Moser Medical Graz99ers narrowly beat the HC Tesla Orli Znojmo with 4:3 after shootout and celebrated their eighth win in a row. The Styrians had an equally long winning streak only once before, between January 25th and February 22nd, 2019. For Znojmo, on the other hand, it was the second defeat in a row. Already in the third minute of the game, the guests from Styria took the lead. After the "Eagles" equalized in the meantime, Ken Ograjensek put the guests back in front just before the end of the third period. In a very even game, Graz still held a one-goal lead after the second period. Both teams scored once each in the middle period. The narrow lead lasted until 49 seconds before the end of the game, before Filip Ahl managed to equalize for Znojmo. In the end, the game had to be decided in the shootout, in which Ben Blood was the only player to score. The 99ers remain in seventh place in the standings. Znojmo ends the year 2021 in tenth place.
Salzburg also with eighth win in a row
Alongside the 99ers, the EC Red Bull Salzburg also celebrated its eighth win in a row. However, the Red Bulls still need four more wins to equalize their own club record. Against the Dornbirn Bulldogs, the home side had a tougher game than expected, but still deserved to win with 3:1. After goalless first 20 minutes, Dominique Heinrich opened the scoring for the Red Bulls. After Kevin Macierzynski had equalized in the meantime, Mario Huber managed to regain the lead in the second period. In the final period, T.J. Brennan scored a little more than three minutes before the end to decide the game. Salzburg is still comfortably on top of the table. Dornbirn is in twelfth place.
Villach succeeds in turnaround
Despite trailing 0:3, the EC GRAND Immo VSV was still able to celebrate a 4:3-SO home victory in the end. The HCB Südtirol Alperia was comfortably in the lead after 23 minutes thanks to a brace by Angelo Miceli and a goal by Daniel Frank. A little later, however, the home team turned up the heat. First Anton Karlsson scored to make it 1:3, before Travis Oleksuk scored the second goal less than two minutes later. In the 52nd minute of the game, VSV actually managed to equalize the score. Subsequently, both teams had chances to decide the game. However, the bar prevented a goal on both sides. In the following overtime, only 17 seconds were left to play when Villach made perfect use of a two on one situation. John Hughes played to Chris Collins who scored the decision. For the "Eagles" it was the second win in a row. The "Foxes" lost for the first time after two wins.
Fehérvár wins against Capitals
Hydro Fehérvár AV19 beat the spusu Vienna Capitals with 3:1 and passed the Viennese in the table again. The Hungarians finish 2021 in second place. In the fourth and for the time being last duel of the season it was the third win for Fehérvár, with Nilsson, Magosi and Petan scoring. Sascha Bauer scored for the Capitals.
Klagenfurt without problems
The clearest victory on Thursday was celebrated by the EC-KAC, who clearly got the upper hand at the HK SZ Olimpija with 5:1. The Carinthians, who were without the injured Thomas Koch and Nick Petersen among others, already led with 4:0 after 25 minutes and remain in sixth place in the standings. However, they are only 0.04 points behind fourth-placed HK SZ Olimpija. The league newcomer from Slovenia already conceded the third defeat in a row, the eighth from the past ten games.
The second newcomer, HC Pustertal Wölfe, on the other hand, is still on the rise. The South Tyroleans prevailed at the HC TIWAG Innsbruck - Die Haie with 4:2. Canadian Jakob Stukel scored a brace for the second time this season and thus played a significant role in the victory of his team. In the table, the "Wolves" end the year 2021 in eleventh place outside the pre-playoff places, but the gap to Znojmo is only 0.01 points. The "Sharks", who could only win three of the past ten games, also have to fight for the postseason again. In ninth place, their lead over Pustertal is now only 0.07 points.
