The Red Bulls came out hard and pressed for an early lead. It took only three minutes until Andreas Kristler opened the scoring on a rebound after Raymond shot. The visitors became dangerous for the first time on power play but the champions killed the penalty off. Florian Baltram, who celebrated a comeback after injury, and Raymond missed the best chances for the home side before the first intermission, though. After the restart the Red Bulls found the back of the net early again. John Hughes and Alexander Rauchenwald put their colours 3:0 up. The guests were harmless for most of the period but that changed in the third. This time Innsbruck scored early with Hunter Bishop and Mario Lamoureux making it a one-goal game. John Hughes answered with a power play marker and Rauchenwald made the game safe in the 48th minute.
