On Friday, reigning champion HK SZ Olimpija opened the preseason with a 0:1 defeat against Erste Bank Eishockey Liga team EC Panaceo VSV. While Alps Hockey League newcomer Steel Wings Linz suffered three straight defeats, second newbie Vienna Capitals Silver booked a 4:3 win in the second preseason meeting with EC-KAC II. With the Red Bull Hockey Juniors, the HC Fassa Falcons, S.G. Cortina Hafro and HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice four more AHL-teams got wins past days. Till Thursday three more scrimmages are scheduled.
Current AHL champion suffered shutout defeat at opener
With suffering a 0:1 shutout defeat, reigning champions HK SZ Olimpija’s preseason opener was unsuccessful. After a strong performance during the whole game, the Slovenian side lost at Erste Bank Eishockey Liga team EC Panaceo VSV about three minutes to go.
Steel Wings Linz scores for the first time in club’s history
Alps Hockey League newcomer Steel Wings Linz had to take three defeats past weekend. On Friday they lost to Unia Oświęcim (POL) 0:11 and Stefan Freunschlag too, who suffered a collarbone fracture. One day later Leon Kleiss scored Steel Wings’ first goal ever, as the Upper Austrians suffered a 1:4 defeat against HC Slezan Opava (CZE). One day later the Steel Wings got defeated by SHK Hodonin (CZE) 5:0.
Vienna Capitals Silver take second win against Klagenfurt
After the 5:0 shutout win in the first preseason meeting at Klagenfurt, the Vienna Capitals Silver won the second scrimmage against EC-KAC II too. The Alps Hockey League newbie grabbed a 4:3 win, leading 3:0 after two periods. One day before, on Thursday, the Carinthian squad crossed sticks with Fehervari Titanok, losing 2:6 against the Hungarian side. Further, Klagenfurt announced the signing of 22-year-old forward Kevin Szabad, who played at MAC Budapest and EC Panaceo VSV (10 games) past season.
Red Bull Hockey Juniors with one out of two
The Red Bull Hockey Juniors played two friendlies past days, facing two German teams. On Thursday, the Austrian side suffered a 3:5 defeat against the Eisbären Regensburg. After trailing 0:4 about 17 minutes to go, the Red Bulls scored all three goals in the last frame but were not able to turn it around. Filip Varejcka, Robert Arrak and Max Tjernström lit the lamp for past year’s quarterfinalist. On Sunday, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors gained their first preseason win, as they booked a 5:2 victory against EV Landshut, which plays DEL2 in the coming season. An early brace of Robert Arrak got the Juniors on winning way.
Two AHL-internal tests for Fassa | Jesenice celebrates opening win
In the last days the HC Fassa Falcons played two AHL-internal scrimmages. After a 4:5 shootout win against HC Gherdeina valgardena.it on Wednesday, the falcons lost to S.G. Cortina Hafro 1:5. Marco Sanna and Francesco Adami both made a brace. Last year’s semifinalist HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice celebrated an overtime win, as the Slovenian side defeated Hungarian side Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák 3:2. Blaž Tomaževič hit the game winner.
Austrian quartet lose friendlies
Past weekend four Austrian teams had to take defeats in their preseason games. The EK Die Zeller Eisbären lost to Bietigheim Steelers (GER) 1:3, while the EC Bregenzerwald lost to EHC Basel (CH) 2:5. Further, the EC “Die Adler” Stadtwerke Kitzbühel got defeated by the Eisbären Regensburg after overtime 4:5 and the EHC Lustenau dropped 1:7 against EV Zug Akademie.
Three more games till Thursday
In the upcoming days three more preseason games are scheduled, with one internal test, as HC Gherdeina valgardena.it faces S. G. Cortina Hafro tonight. Cortina won both meetings in past AHL season. On Tuesday, the EC Bregenzerwald heads into its third preparatory game, facing Swiss side SC Rheintal. Moreover, on Thursday, HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice plays its second scrimmage, hosting Reprezentanca Slovenije.
