Release from 11.01.2025
In Saturday's round of the Alps Hockey League, the top trio each celebrated victories. However, league leader Jesenice was the only team to drop a point, allowing Ritten and Zell to close the gap to just one point. Additionally, the Broncos, Merano, and Cortina secured wins.
OT-Win for Jesenice
League leader HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice had to give up a point on Saturday evening while visiting the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers. Although the Slovenians had the better start and took a 1-0 lead in the opening period, the Unterland hosts showed a significantly more dangerous performance in the second period, temporarily turning the game around to lead 2-1. Jesenice managed to force overtime, where Žiga Urukalo delivered the decisive goal in favor of the league leader.
Ritten and Zell Close the Gap to One Point
The Rittner Buam SkyAlps secured an important victory in the Top 5 clash against EC Adler Kitzbühel. After a goalless first period, Ritten proved highly efficient in power plays, scoring two goals with a man advantage. Although Kitzbühel managed to reduce the deficit in the second period, they could not beat goalie Colin Furlong again throughout the remainder of the game.
The EK Zeller Eisbären claimed a 4-3 away win against KHL Sisak, cutting the gap to leader Jesenice to just one point. Zell had the better start, taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. In the second period, the Croatian team turned the game around to take the lead. However, Zell struck back three times in the same period, extending their lead to 4-2 after 40 minutes and laying the foundation for their success. Sisak managed to narrow the margin but failed to force overtime.
Wins for the Broncos, Merano, and Cortina
The Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan triumphed 5-2 over HK RST Pellet Celje on Saturday evening. After 40 minutes, Celje was still leading 2-1, but a strong final period by the Broncos secured them the three points. Adam Capannelli shone with two goals and two assists.
HC Merano celebrated a 3-2 overtime victory against HC Gherdeina. Neither team could get past the opposing goalie in the first period. In the second, Merano took the lead, but Gherdeina responded immediately. The third period followed a similar pattern, leaving the teams tied at 3-3 heading into overtime. In the extra frame, Massimo Pietroniro scored his second goal of the night to secure the win.
S.G. Cortina Hafro earned a 4-2 win over the Red Bull Hockey Juniors, further solidifying their Top 5 position. The young team from Salzburg initially had the better start, taking a 1-0 lead. However, Cortina turned the game around by the 34th minute, leading 2-1. Early in the final period, the Juniors equalized, but Cortina remained composed in the closing minutes to secure a 4-2 victory.
