Sabres celebrate clear AWHL victory at Lakers | Graz wins in EWHL

The Sabres St. Pölten won 5:1 at the Lakers Kärnten in the win2day Austrian Women's Hockey League on Saturday. The Lower Austrians, for whom Hannah Tait scored a brace, thus defended their second place in the AWHL table.

Bratislava extended its lead in the European Women's Hockey League. While Graz left the bottom of the table with a home win over MAC Budapest, Almaty celebrated a clear success.

The Sabres took the lead in Klagenfurt in the eleventh minute through Tamina Schall. A brace from Hannah Tait made things clear in the middle period, but the hosts reduced the deficit through Isabelle Hardy just seconds before the second intermission. However, the Sabres were not deterred and added two more goals in the third period. With their third win in their fourth AWHL game, St. Pölten defended second place.

Bratislava extended their lead in the European Women's Hockey League. The Slovakians won 4:2 at the valiantly fighting DEC Salzburg Eagles on Saturday. Hana Fancovicova scored the only goal in the first period and Bratislava pulled away to 3:1 in the middle period. Janka Hlinkova made things clear eight minutes before the end.

The EC Graz99ers Huskies celebrated their second win of the EWHL season. Although MAC Budapest took the lead in Styria, a brace from Tamara Grascher turned the game in the hosts' favour in the middle period. Andrea Kiss equalised in the 45th minute and the game went into over time and later into a penalty shoot-out. There, Nina Ausperger secured the home win and Graz improved from last place to ninth.

Aisulu Almaty gave Budapest Jegkorong Akademia no chance. The hosts won 7:0, with Annlise Hayes and Cassidy Maplethorpe each scoring a brace. Almaty thus remain in third place in the EWHL table.
