EC Red Bull Salzburg and Steinbach Black Wings Linz took further steps towards direct playoff qualification in their Sunday games. Ty Loney decides game in overtime

EC Red Bull Salzburg celebrated a hard-fought overtime victory over EC-KAC. The Klagenfurt team had the more successful start: "Salzburg specialist" Thomas Hundertpfund put the score at 1:0 on the power play. With a total of 27 goals against EC Red Bull Salzburg, Hundertpfund is the most successful scorer of all active KAC-Cracks in this duel. The Red Bulls then really turned up the heat in the second period. With three goals within seven minutes, the third-placed team in the table turned the match around and seemed to have gained full control of the encounter. In the final period, the KAC showed character and fought their way back into the match. Rok Ticar first cut the deficit in the 56th minute, before a deflection by Fabian Hochegger 2.6 seconds before the supposed end ensured overtime. There, Ty Loney, in his first fourth game of the season - he was previously out injured - decided the match with a single action. While Salzburg thus remains close to the top duo, the KAC missed the chance to move back into the top-6 already on Sunday.

Black Wings record landslide win over Pioneers

The Steinbach Black Wings Linz had no problems against league last-place BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg. After the Upper Austrians had to admit defeat four times in the last five games, the Linzers managed to break free again in the race for a top-6 place. In the first period, the team from Vorarlberg still delivered a tough duel on eye level to the Black Wings, in which defender Martin Schumnig put his team in the lead. In the second period, the Upper Austrians took full control and increased to 4:0. The Pioneers could no longer pose a threat to the Linzers and eventually had to admit defeat with 0:5. Defender Martin Schumnig scored a double.
