Release from 25.10.2023
EC Red Bull Salzburg returned to the top of the win2day ICE Hockey League table on Wednesday with a 4:1 road win at HC Pustertal. While Steinbach Black Wings Linz, BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg and EC-KAC celebrated clear victories, Hydro Fehérvár AV19 and HCB Südtirol Alperia kept the upper hand in close games.
EC Red Bull Salzburg beat HC Pustertal 4:1 in their win2day ICE Hockey League away game and thus returned to the top of the table (equal on points with the second-placed team from Fehervar). The Red Bulls laid the foundation for three points in Bruneck with a 3:0 lead already in the brilliant first third - Lucas Thaler, Mario Huber and Paul Huber provided the goals. Manuel Öhler scored his first league goal in the middle period, but Peter Hochkofler restored the three-goal lead. The game got heated at the end, but nothing changed in the 4:1 victory of Salzburg.
Although Fehervar were ahead in both the first and second period in Ljubljana, the home side held a 3:2 lead after 40 minutes. In the final period, the shot ratio was 12:4 for Olimpija and yet the Hungarians turned the game around. First Natan Vertes equalised and less than two minutes later Istvan Bartalis scored the game winner. Fehervar goalie Dominik Horvath recorded 38 saves and won also his eighth game as starting goalie.
Clear wins for Linz and Klagenfurt
The Steinbach Black Wings Linz celebrated a resounding victory over the Moser Medical Graz99ers. Nicolas Wieser had his first start in goal for the Styrians this season. After 109 seconds, Andreas Kristler put the puck over the line to give the hosts an early lead. Shortly afterwards Brodi Stuart made it 2:0, and with two more goals from Graham Knott, who extended his lead in the scoring charts, the Upper Austrians managed the preliminary decision in the middle period. St-Amant (45th) and Collins (51st) fixed the final score of 6:0, with which Linz improved to fourth place in the table.
The new Caps coaching duo Christian Dolezal and Fabian Scholz again had to do without some players for their joint debut against EC-KAC. The Klagenfurters were overwhelmingly superior in the first period in front of 5,100 spectators and took the lead in the ninth minute through a beautiful one-timer by Johannes Bischofberger. Lorenz Widhalm, who started in goal for the Vienna team for the first time this season, conceded two more goals in the first period - he was replaced by Stefan Steen after 20 minutes. In the 34th minute Matt Fraser scored his second goal of the evening and Simeon Schwinger made it 5:0. The Capitals showed morale and scored at least two goals in the third period through Preiser (45th) and Piff (58th) - but they could not avoid the ninth defeat in a row. The Carinthians, on the other hand, extended their advantage to seventh place with a 5:2 win.
Pioneers back on the winning track
After five defeats in a row, the BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg had an impressive win on Wednesday. Daniel Woger gave the home side the lead against EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV in the twelfth minute. Only a few seconds later Andrew Desjardins had to go to the shower after a check, the Pioneers used the power play through Nick Pastujov to make it 2:0. Right after the beginning of the middle period Maximilian Rebernig shortened it for the guests, but Vorarlberg pulled ahead to 4:1 until the second intermission. Woger, who scored twice like Nick Pastujov, ensured the preliminary decision in the third period, Julian Metzler fixed the 6:1 final score.
Bolzano wins "Grande Classico
For the second time in a row, HCB Südtirol Alperia won 4:3 after overtime - this time in the "Grande Classico" against Asiago Hockey. The Bolzano team, which had dominated the game until then, took the lead in the 19th minute through Christian Thomas. Shortly after the restart, the guests equalised. This scenario was repeated twice more - Bolzano took the lead, Asiago equalised. So it went into overtime at 3:3. After a penalty against Finoro, it was Mike Halmo who scored for the home victory.
