CHL Showdown Part 1 for VSV on Tuesday

EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV will start the final CHL double-header of the group stage against the Straubing Tigers on Tuesday with three points in their books. The DEL team won three of its four games in the Champions Hockey League and is now in second place in the standings. In the league, however, the Lower Bavarians had a more mixed start to the season: in four of seven games, the Tigers had to leave the ice as losers and currently rank eleventh in the DEL standings. The Villach Eagles have also not yet been able to get off to a flying start in the league, winning just two of their five games. In the CHL, only one of the four games so far has been won, but the chances of advancing are still intact. But only if the Villach team takes a full three points on Tuesday, the chance to reach the round of 16 is still alive. If the Adler succeed, it would come - in all likelihood - exactly one week later to a "real" showdown in Straubing.

Also on Tuesday, Hydro Fehérvár AV 19 will play its definitely penultimate game of the current CHL campaign. Already before the double against GTS Katowice (November 4 and 11), the round of 16 is out of reach. Nevertheless, the Hungarian team from the win2day ICE Hockey League is looking for its first CHL win on Tuesday in Poland.

Salzburg can fix round of 16 on Wednesday

EC Red Bull Salzburg has the best chances of advancement of all ICE teams. The win2day ICE Hockey League leader holds seven points ahead of its final double in Group F of the Champions Hockey League. In the group, only Fribourg-Gottéron is better placed with nine points. But the club from Switzerland is Salzburg's two-time opponent at the conclusion of the group stage, and the third and fourth-place teams are lurking not far behind in the group. Before the last two matches, all four teams in Group F still have a chance to advance. Nevertheless, Salzburg could already be determined as eighth-finalists after Wednesday's home game against Fribourg-Gottéron. For that, Salzburg would have to score at least two points more than the Stavanger Oilers at Ilves Tampere.

The Champions Hockey League wildcard participant HK SZ Olimpija has no chance of reaching the round of 16. The first Slovenian CHL participant is still without points in the current campaign. Against EV Zug, the plan to change this will be anything but easy, as they had to give up only a single point in the four CHL games so far.
