For the return match in Stavanger, the Red Bulls were without convalescents Ty Loney, Paul Huber and Philipp Wimmer as well as Dominique Heinrich. Devin Steffler stepped in today, the 22-year-old defender made his CHL debut with the Salzburgers. After an even start, the Red Bulls took advantage of their first power play chance and took the lead in the 8th minute through Thomas Raffl. In the second period, the home side initially pressed, but after a fast breakaway (23rd), Peter Hochkofler converted the rebound after Ali Wukovits' shot to make it 0:2. However, Greg Mauldin managed to equalise with a brace within a few minutes before the second period break. After a goalless third period, the penalty shoot-out had to decide the game and the Red Bulls struck ice-cold. Ali Wukovits, Troy Bourke and Benjamin Nissner scored the first three attempts, while David Kickert saved everything. On Sunday, the Red Bulls will play their next away game in Tampere, Finland.

Villach demand everything from Färjestad
A number of recovered players returned to the line-up for Villach's first CHL home game of the new season. The Carinthians were much improved compared to the 0:7 in Karlstad and were unlucky when Blaz Tomazevic only hit the bar. The Swedes showed their qualities, pushed VSV into the defensive and took the lead in the eighth minute. The Carinthians defended themselves bravely and had the best chance to equalise in the 29th minute when Robert Sabolic narrowly failed with a penalty shot on Färjestad goalie Hilderby. In the third period, the visitors went up 2:0. Just two minutes before the end, Nicolas Mattinen scored with a powerful shot into the cross corner. And the home side almost equalised, Chris Collins just missing in the final minute. Villach, who are still without points, will play at home against Krakow on Sunday.

KAC and Innsbruck record shutouts
EC-KAC concluded their preseason on Friday evening with a 2:0 win over Slovakian first division side HC 05 Banská Bystrica, who had previously recorded only wins in seven test matches. After Nick Petersen had given the team the lead in the 18th minute, the Klagenfurters increased it shortly after the restart. Clemens Unterweger's blueliner was deflected into the net by Lukas Haudum (25th). Sebastian Dahm kept the lead with good saves and celebrated a shutout.

Markus Gratzer also did not concede a goal. The youngster played for HC TIWAG Innsbruck against BEMER Pioneers Vorarlberg. Clemens Paulweber scored the only goal of the game in the middle period.

Close defeats for Graz and Linz
At the Energie Steiermark Trophy, the Moser Medical Graz99ers met Adler Mannheim in the semi-finals. The home side showed a very strong first 20 minutes and took the lead in the 13th minute through Michael Schiechl. But shortly before the break, the Germans managed to equalise at 1:1. In the second period, the Grazers conceded two unfortunate goals and so they were trailing 1:4 after 29 minutes. However, the 99ers continued to fight and scored their second goal in the 33rd minute through Daniel Oberkofler. Granholm (55./PP) reduced the score to 3:4 in the final period, but the equaliser was not to come - Mannheim scored into the empty net for the final score of 5:3. While the 99ers play České Budějovice on Saturday (4 p.m.), Mannheim and Nitra will meet in the final. Both games will be shown on pay-per-view live stream: https://live.ice.hockey/feed/etrophy

Steinbach Black Wings Linz faced Nove Zamky at home. After a goalless first period, the Slovaks took a 0:1 lead in the middle period. After conceding the second goal, there was hope again in the 47th minute when Victor Bartley pulled one back. But Nove Zamky finally left the ice with a 3:1 victory.
