Release from 13.12.2019
Thanks to the seventh brace of Thomas Raffl in the running season, the EC Red Bull Salzburg snatched up a tight 3:2 road-win at Villach to strength the lead, while second EC-KAC’s winning-streak was destroyed by HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie”, which came back on winning ways after six consecutive losses. However, the reigning champion sets a new league-record, keeping a clean sheet for 262 minutes and two seconds. Further, the EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz turned around a two-goal deficit, Christopher Nihlstorp collected a shutout at his comeback in Graz' road-win and Hydro Fehérvár AV19 dominated bottom-placed Dornbirn.
Raffl got seventh brace that season
Another brace of Thomas Raffl, who scored his 19th and 20th goal in the running season, leveled EC Red Bull Salzburg’s 3:2 road-win at EC Panaceo VSV. With its twelfth away-win, the leader strengthened the first position in standings. Villach, which scored both goals on PP, could not overcome RBS netminder Jean-Philippe Lamoureux, who had 36 saves in the end. With the third loss in a row, the “eagles” remain seventh, trailing six points to a place in the pick round.
Innsbruck repeats win against the champion
The HC TWK Innsbruck “Die Haie“ repeated its road-win at Klagenfurt from November in the second home-meeting with the reigning champion, as the “sharks” defeated the EC-KAC 4:1 to end up the losing streak at six, destroying “Rotjacken” winning-streak too. However, the reigning champion sets a new league-record, keeping a clean sheet for 262 minutes and two seconds. After Kozek gave the guests, which played without Petersen and Neal, a lead, Innsbruck turned it around in the first on double powerplay. First Caleb Herbert scored, 16 seconds later Joel Broda turned it to 2:1. Later in the second, the hosts made the game safe, as comebacker John Lammers and again Broda scored two more for the preliminary decision.
Linz turns around two-goal deficit
After a 6:4 home-win against HCB Südtirol Alperia, the EHC Liwest Black Wings Linz, which had David Kickert back on the team, are back on winning ways and climbed to third place in standings. Linz’ powerplay was clicking, as Dan DaSilva (38.) and Brian Lebler (40.) balanced a 2:4 deficit in the last 2,5 minutes of the middle frame – both goals scored on powerplay. Andreas Kristler’s decided the game for the hosts in the last, as he scored a brace giving the “foxes” the third defeat within four games. Bolzano’s new arrival Patrick Wiercioch collected one assist.
Nihlstorp gains shutout in comeback
After being out for almost two month, Christopher Nihlstorp celebrated a huge comeback in Moser Medical Graz99er’s 3:0 road-win at spusu Vienna Capitals, as the netminder grabbed his second shutout in the running season. Joakim Hillding (12.) and Matt Garbowsky (38.) both scored for the guests after nice combinations and Oliver Setzinger (60.) rounded off the score with an empty netter. With the fourth away-win of the season, Graz narrowed the gap to the pick round, trailing eight points. Vienna remain goalless in the second consecutive home-game, sitting on the fourth place after the tenth loss of the season.
Fehérvár dominats Dornbirn
With Hydro Fehérvár AV19 winning at Dornbirn Bulldogs 6:2 another team narrowed the gap to the pick round, as the Hungarian side trails seven points to the top-5. “Bulldog” Keaton Ellerby gave the guests a good start: he deflected the puck in the own goal for a 1:0 lead by Fehérvár after the first. The guests picked it up in the middle frame, getting the preliminary decision with three unanswered goals by Sarauer, Koger and Yogan. After Dornbirn halved the deficit in the first half of the last, the Hungarians stroke back, netted two more and cheered the third season-win over the bottom-placed Austrian side.
