Salzburg surprises Zell am See in the derby

The Red Bull Hockey Juniors won the Salzburg derby against EK Die Zeller Eisbären with 2:0. It was the Salzburg team's first win in the third duel of the season with Zell am See. They move up to twelfth place in the table, while the “Polar Bears” remain in third place and missed the chance to make the play-offs early. Player of the match was 17-year-old Leon Kolarik who scored both goals. For goalkeeper Valentin Ankirchner it was the first shutout.

The EK Die Zeller Eisbären would have needed an away win after regulation time on Tuesday evening to secure their place in the top five and thus the play-offs early. In the end, however, it was a 0:2 defeat. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors played a very strong game and took the lead in the sixth minute through Leon Kolarik. The 17-year-old also scored the second goal of the game in the 40th minute. It was the Vienna native's first brace in his eighth Alps Hockey League game. The forward already has a total of 20 scoring points. In goal, 19-year-old Valentin Ankirchner celebrated his first shutout for RBJ. The German was able to save all 26 shots on goal. It was Zell am See's first defeat of the season against the Juniors and one of three defeats in the last five games.
