Red Bull started the game in better fashion, putting the home team under pressure for long periods of time. Raffl missed a close-range rebound three minutes into the game in the biggest chance for the visitors. Znojmo got a boost in a rare offensive chance at 12:14 when Dominik Tejnor fired in a slapshot from the blue line off the post. The game changed after the goal with the home side suddenly on the top. Anthony Luciani took advantage of that ascension as he increased the lead to 2-0 two minutes before the break.

Just fifteen seconds into the second period Ryan Duncan put Salzburg on the board with a perfect wristshot into the top corner. And four minutes into the second period, Bobby Raymond equalized from the slot. The game continues in even fashion, both teams creating chances. Guman was denied by Michalek while Raffl missed another sitter in a 2-on-1 breakaway.

The final period was decided by two goals by Salzburg midway in the period. First, Heinrich fired home a great wristshot from the slot that went in off the post. Few minutes after that Brent Harris increased the score to 4-2 with a rebound. Late pressure by the home team brought only a consolation goal by Patrik Parkkonen.
