Return 2-play games open basic round
Six so-called return 2-play games - the 16 participating teams were divided into four regional groups - open the regular season 2020/21 in the Alps Hockey League. The two R2P duels against the respective regional competitor will be counted as a return match, so the overall score will be decisive for the points win. Thus, a maximum of three points can be scored in two duels with one team. If both teams have scored the same number of goals after 2 x 60 minutes, the teams each receive one point. The extra point is played in extra time and, if necessary, a penalty shootout.

After the return 2-play matches, a complete round robin will start on 24 October. The top 4 after 36 games per team will qualify for the playoffs, the teams in fifth to twelfth place will play pre-playoffs.

>> A detailed description of the mode can be found here.

The return 2-play games will bring exciting matches right on the first day of play, October 3, starting at 17.30 hrs: In Slovenia, HK SZ Olimpija Ljubljana and HDD SIJ Acroni Jesenice will meet. The first Vorarlberg Derby will be played by EC Bregenzerwald and EHC Lustenau, while in South Tyrol, for example, the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan will welcome the Rittner Buam.

Matjaz Rakovec, President of the Alps Hockey League: "We have a challenging season ahead of us. The health of everyone involved is clearly our top priority. That's why we're also starting with the return 2-play games, which clearly reduce contacts within all participants. Especially at this time of year, a conscious approach to the current situation is more important than ever. But with the regional pairings we also want to create some additonal excitement".

Main game days remain Thursday and Saturday
As in previous seasons, Thursday and Saturday are the main games days in the Alps Hockey League in the fifth season 2020/21. For logistical and infrastructural reasons, "road trips" are also set for the upcoming season from phase 2, meaning that some games will be played off the main match days. The final starting times will be announced in due course. In the 2020/21 season, all games of the Alps Hockey League will be offered as online video stream. Details can always be found in good time before the start of the games on the league website and the league facebook channel.
