Second CHL defeat for Salzburg | Preseason wins for Villach, Linz and Klagenfurt

The EC Red Bull Salzburg lost also in the second Champions Hockey League game. The reigning win2day ICE Hockey League champions lost 2:3 at the Adler Mannheim, with newcomer Ryan Murphy (58.) and Florian Baltram (60.) scoring the goals for the Red Bulls.

In the preseason, the EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV, the Steinbach Black Wings Linz and the EC-KAC celebrated a victory on Sunday. Only the spusu Vienna Capitals conceded a narrow defeat.

After the 0:4 opening defeat at Skelleftea on Friday, the EC Red Bull Salzburg was also defeated in the second away game at the Adler Mannheim with 2:3. The sem-finalists of the last DEL season already prevailed 4:2 in the opening game in Bolzano.

Mannheim took the lead against Salzburg already in the sixth minute when they were shorthanded. The first period ended with a score of 1:0 for the home team. At the beginning of the middle period, the Germans scored two goals in the first minutes. First, John Gilmour increased the lead to 2:0 68 seconds after the restart, and again only 89 seconds later Maximilian Eisenmenger scored to make it 3:0.

The score remained until just under two minutes before the end of the game, when Salzburg's new signing Ryan Murphy scored Salzburg´s the first goal of the current competition. The visitors then tried everything again and even managed to score the 2:3 with 29 seconds left. This time it was Florian Baltram who scored after an assist from Dennis Robertson. For Robertson it was the second assist of the game. In the end, however, it remained 2:3 from the point of view of Salzburg, which will be in action for the first time in front of a home crowd on Thursday at 20:20. Their opponents will be the ERC Ingolstadt, who are still undefeated after two matchdays.



Preseason wins for Villach, Linz and Klagenfurt | Vienna loses narrowly

In the preseason three of four ICE clubs celebrated a victory on Sunday. The EC iDM Wärmepumpen VSV beat the Straubing Tigers from the DEL surprisingly clear with 5:1. The goals of the Eagles scored Kevin Hancock, twice Alexander Rauchenwald, Marco Richter and Elias Wallenta. The only downer for the Villach team was that Kevin Hancock had to retire early in the second period with a lower-body injury.

The Steinbach Black Wings Linz got a tight 3:2-OT win at the Nürnberg Ice Tigers, who also play in the DEL. Stefan Gaffal scored twice to give the Black Wings a 2:0 lead, but although Nürnberg came back, it was again Gaffal who scored in the shootout to give the Black Wings the away win.

The EC-KAC celebrated a clear 7:1 home victory in the last preseason home game against the Concordia University from Montreal. Lukas Haudum and Fabian Hochegger scored two goals each, Nick Petersen, Finn van Ee and Thomas Hundertpfund scored one goal each.

The only defeat of a win2day ICE Hockey League representative conceded the spusu Vienna Capitals. The Viennese lost against the HC Nové Zámky in Slovakia with 2:4. After 40 minutes the score was still tied 2:2. The Capitals' goals were scored by Nico Brunner and Armin Preiser.
