The starting situation for the Red Bulls before the second leg at Rögle BK is promising. In the CHL, the aggregate score is used for the evaluation of the games in the knockout phase, i.e. the goals from both games are added together. With another win, a draw or a loss with a one-goal difference, the Salzburg team would advance. In the case of a defeat with a two-goal difference - no matter how high the score is - it would come to overtime and, if necessary, the all-decisive penalty shootout. If Rögle wins by a margin of three or more goals, the Swedes will advance.

The last game before the showdown in Ängelholm was unsuccessful for both Salzburg and Rögle. The Swedes lost 1:4 in Örebro and are only on eleventh place in the domestic SHL. Salzburg lost 0:1 in Graz, two days earlier they gave the Pioneers Vorarlberg no chance at home in a 6:1 win. In the table of the win2day ICE Hockey League, RBS is in third place.
