There were two home and two away wins at the start of the quarterfinal series of the win2day ICE Hockey League. A total of 26 goals were scored. Only four times in history since the league was founded there have been more goals scored in the playoffs opener. The EC GRAND Immo VSV conceded a total of six goals, losing 4:6 at home to the HK SZ Olimpija. In the PULS 24 live match, the "Eagles" now want to strike back in the Slovenian capital. The spusu Vienna Capitals also started the playoffs with a home defeat against the EC-KAC. The EC Red Bull Salzburg and Hydro Fehérvár AV19, on the other hand, can go into game two of the "best-of-seven" series relaxed. They were victorious in front of their home crowd on Wednesday.

As expected, the EC Red Bull Salzburg started the quarterfinal series against the HC Tesla Orli Znojmo with a home win. The Red Bulls prevailed against the Czechs with 3:1 and celebrated their fourth win in a row over Znojmo. However, the guests managed to keep the opening game open for a long time. Until seven seconds before the end of the game, it was only 2:1 for RBS, before Thomas Raffl ensured the decision with an empty-net goal. In Znojmo, Salzburg prevailed in one of the two duels of the season. The Czech Eagles have always made it at least into overtime in nine of their past ten home games. In seven encounters, they retained the upper hand.

After a 1:1 draw after 60 minutes, the opener between the EC-KAC and the spusu Vienna Capitals had to be decided in overtime. In this, the KAC kept the upper hand. Matt Fraser scored the game winner after eight minutes and 31 seconds. For Klagenfurt it was already the fourth win from the five season duels with the Capitals. The Viennese lost for the first time in the past six seasons in the playoff opener. In the Stadthalle Klagenfurt, Vienna could only win three of the past ten encounters. Overall, the Caps have been struggling away from home lately, with seven losses from the past ten games. The HC Pustertal Wölfe started into their first playoffs of the win2day ICE Hockey League with a 1:8 defeat. At Hydro Fehérvár AV19 the South Tyrolean team was already trailing with 0:5 after 18 minutes. In the meantime, the Hungarians could even pull away to 7:0, before Max Gerlach managed to score fort he first time for the "Wolves". For Fehérvár it was the third win in the third home game against Pustertal. However, they have not yet won in Bruneck. Pustertal recently conceded two home defeats in a row. Before that, however, they were victorious in six of seven home games.

In the PULS 24 live match, the EC GRAND Immo VSV is looking to regain home advantage at the HK SZ Olimpija. The second in the table after the Regular Season lost with 4:6 in the quarterfinals. In the meantime, the Slovenians were already with 5:1 in front, before the VSV could reduce the score to 4:5. In the end it was the third win of the season for Ljubljana against the "Eagles". Frenchman Guillaume Leclerc was the only player to score twice. The 26-year-old was also named the top performer of the first quarterfinal matchday. However, Villach has not been defeated away recently. The last away defeat dates from January 25th in the derby against the EC-KAC. After that, they won seven away games in a row.
