Sensational win for EC-KAC at defending CHL champion Geneva

The EC KAC surprised in the Champions Hockey League at defending champion Genève-Servette with a 3:2/OT win. Klagenfurt were already trailing 0:2 in the meantime. In overtime, it was Matt Fraser who scored the game-winner.

Thanks to the narrow victory at Genève-Servette, the EC-KAC still has a small chance of reaching the round of 16. Before the last round, Klagenfurt are in 19th place and two points behind the important 16th place. Defending champions Geneva are also in danger of dropping out of the CHL. The Swiss team are just ahead of the KAC in 18th place. Geneva were already leading 2:0 against the reigning runner-up of the win2day ICE Hockey League. After a goalless first period, the Swiss scored in the 21st and 29th minutes. Daniel Obersteiner reduced the deficit to 1:2 for the EC-KAC just before the end of the middle period. Simeon Schwinger equalized in the 46th minute. The score was 2:2 going into overtime, in which it was Matt Fraser who scored after 185 seconds to secure a sensational victory for Klagenfurt. In the sixth and final game of the CHL league phase, the KAC will face another Swiss team, the ZSC Lions Zurich, next Wednesday, October 16, but then in front of a home crowd.
